As for the mod icon, good question. No idea why it's missing all of a sudden, I'll get that fixed as soon as I get the chance.
Also, what happened to the mod icon here?
It's not intended to be taken that seriously, and is meant to be treated as an instance of the Corruption vs. Crimson memes. Regardless, you make a good point IMO.
Personally I tend to play Corruption more because I like its aesthetic and music better, also the Musket and Dart Rifle are very good ranged weapons in the earlygame and early hardmode, respectively.
Corruption is better for beginners as it it easier but the loot is worse
Crimson is better for experienced players as it is harder but the loot is better
Neither of them are bad, I tend to just click the random button upon creating a world and let fate decide.
If you want to say that my opinion is wrong then that is your opinion and I respect it.
...but I'm too lazy to come back to this mod and make cross-mod variants...
I am curious though, so you're finding the boss too easy on one difficulty and too hard on higher difficulties, or just the former?
I will say that yes, the boss is pretty easy to cheese with circular movement patterns. It's something of an inevitable flaw given the boss's movement style and the fact that its projectile attacks lack prediction.
Also, are you fighting the boss on the surface? The extra space makes the fight much more manageable (Probably too much so) in my experience.
Another thing to note is that the boss will definitely feel easy compared to most modded bosses, as the base/classic AI for this boss is meant to be more tame, like classic mode vanilla.
I've considered a rework for the future but it's very low priority compared to other plans I have since this is just a small thing I made to play around with boss AI.
Me: Oh a boss that doesn't come with much more and won't crossfire with more major mods
Me: uses it with every content mod playthrough
Me: Why boss so easy?
I can appreciate the effort put into the fight, especially as it is your first time with NPC AI. My own first boss was not incredible either, so I can cut you some slack. I just thought that the boss's movement was counter-intuitive with where the boss is fought, and that many of the boss's attacks were trivialized because of how easy the movement is to counter while in a large space.
Just to be thorough I re-tested the enraged Expert fight in a smaller arena than I normally do (85x50 instead of 117x60), while using a casual (Non-optimal) Pre-Plantera setup;
Hallow Summoner using Sanguine+Durendal (With Megashark + Chloro as sidearm)
Wings + Terraspark and SoC for mobility, Ankh Shield and CoM for defense, and avenger emblem for offense. Reforge prefixes were optimized, though (Menacing, Ruthless, etc).
Only buff was Well Fed.
The fight takes a while since I the loadout doesn't invest much in offense nor uses a strong sidearm. I only got overrun maybe twice, though, due to a bad transition out of Cursed Storm. The only attacks that gave me trouble were Cursed Storm and the Night Bombs since there's less space to back up and weave through.
Also, I'll note that the boss gets a notable speed boost when in Expert; if that was your first experience with it know that the classic fight is toned down in comparison.
I think I'll slightly nerf the Expert speed boost, too.
I'm sure this gives a ton of people Plantera arena flashbacks, which is why I made a manual summoning item for the boss so you can fight it on the surface where there's more room, with the trade off of gathering materials and a mild enrage (Slightly faster and some extra defense). I personally prefer fighting above ground.
Regardless, I agree with your criticisms; it's not very fun or fair to need another plantera-esque arena just to fight an agile boss underground. This is my first go at making a boss (Actually, this is my first NPC AI coding in general), so the feedback is appreciated.
A suggestion I would make is to have the core move in zig-zags towards you, stopping briefly after each movement. It would make giant arenas less of a necessity, while also making its standard projectiles cover more space at they are fired out.
I ended up not adding an enrage since the boss doesn't have an entirely predictable attack sequence like EoL or Duke Fishron, so it wouldn't translate very well to any sort of no-hit style or masochist fight since you can't fully know and prepare for what the Core might do which could lead to some BS hits (By comparison, it's possible to always know what EoL or Duke are doing so you can always be ready to dodge them properly).
If you do want to see a much harder version of the fight, try summoning it on For the Worthy or Get Fixed Boi.
