One of the best Old Aperture maps I’ve had the pleasure of playing. Love the custom signs and assets. Good job on the non-chamber elements too, it really adds to the feeling that this part of the facility is in severe disrepair… it makes you hope you’ll continue to find ways onward and upward every time you clear an area. It evokes the same feeling I got from playing the original Old Aperture tests, but done even better arguably, as well as BEN 77’s Underground series.

The puzzles themselves are mild challenges, personally they’re not too difficult but still fun and intriguing. (I did play the original first and that’s how I felt about them the first time as well. Still amongst Demon Arisen’s best works.)

Also, for the fourth puzzle I too missed the cube by the runway, and assumed using the orange gel to make it out the door was intended.

Not sure this was intended, but this jump was both very "out of character" - I spent several minutes looking for a more "portal" solution, but found nothing I could do with gels or portals from here - and difficult to execute (I landed in the goo several times, often due to being deflected off the girders). https://i.imgur.com/Tsjgaqw.jpg

@AdRoz78 the original puzzle is just as long, though this map includes some extra parts not seen in the original to improve gameplay and visual progression

okay, very great puzzle, but-
GEEZ YOU MADE IT WAY TOO LONG
i felt sick from playing it that long. splitting it up into 3 or even 2 parts would've made this a 10/10. had to noclip on the last part

The test chambers were more difficult the farther you proceeded, and I liked that.

@Killjoy, the room you are talking about is a broken test chamber. You aren't supposed to solve it, hence why its pretty dark. (Thought your monitor brightness might not be all the way up, or you have the dark portal bug)

Still need to find one poster...

Somehow, the "speed gel sound" kept playing after I finished the speed gel chamber. I haven't been able to replicate this.

I've always wanted Axiom to be Hammerized. And what an exquisitely beautiful Hammerization it is.

Very cheeky of you to have a malfunctioning adhesion gel pipe! I only found one of the five posters - I'll look again.

Trapping situation: I got stuck behind the upstairs rubble in the broken test chamber.

I soft-locked myself by using portals to get back into the first chamber, and then passing through one of the fizzlers. For some reason the cube dropper stopped functioning so I couldn't reopen the first chamber's exit door.

Apart from that, this is one of my favorite remakes of a Demon Arisen puzzle. Great work!

You can disable the "clients" flag on the portal cleanser to make it not fizzle portals on touch, or just change it to a func_noportal_volume - you only really need an invisible portal cleanser if you want to block portal shots mid-flight

You'd be correct in that feeling janky, as it wasn't the correct solution (don't worry, I did exactly that when I first played this map). The intended solution was to first put the blue gel on the runway so you can jump up to the grate next to the while gel area, then start looping the blue gel. Then you can use the blue gel to jump up to the grate and solve that part much easier .

As for the random portal cleanser, I did that so players wouldn't try to use the blue gel for the wall bounce further ahead. Plus I figured a sparking portal emitter still trying to place a portal would prevent any other portal from existing on that surface. Came with the byproduct of fizzling the players portals if they stood on the surface at the same time. Don't think I can do much about that .

Awesome map, I never played Demon's original version so this was my first time experiencing it. Although, I'm not entirely sure that I solved the final chamber correctly, since there were some parts where I had to quickly move my portal to the wall, go through the autoportal, then move my portal back to the floor to keep a gel bomb looping through, which seemed kind of janky. Other than that, I really enjoyed the puzzle.

I also noticed a few weird things like how you briefly have a dual portalgun at the start of the map, and a random portal cleanser below the blue gel dropper in the broken chamber. But those are minor nitpicks I can ignore.

I've heard there are secrets, but I didn't find any of them. Maybe I'll come back and look for them later.

I love the choice of starting in the golden days of Old Aperture then moving to an 80's map. Adding each gel one by one was also clever as it gets the player used to how the puzzles use the gels, and lemme just say the puzzles are *wonderful*. Simple but effective and fun puzzles, amazing detailed visuals. One of the best maps I've played.

absolutely stunning visuals, puzzle, and secrets. Makes sense coming from 2 Desolation devs. One of the best takes I've seen on testing sphere lighting and visual design
