@Opengunner thank you so much hmhm, and don't worry i want the challenge cause this and scratch&bite are the only good stance characters i've seen hmhm.i wanna add my own twist with it but it's percent based and until death rather than manually activated

@suveranai There's a couple of components to make the stance change work. 1st is the visual sprite component. I used Supersonic's skin sprite system that he shares in ExW. This manages the changing of the sprites when he's in that stance. 2nd the actual changes for the mode are handled by checking a variable to see if he's in the mode and adjusting the attacks based on that variable in update.gml and attack_update.gml. SL Iroh does not have a different set of base stats, rather he has modifications to his code that allow him to use these custom states like the air dash and ground dash, which are actually custom attacks in the at_extras slot that are being called. You can change attack states using set_attack_value() and set_window_value() and set_hitbox_value() for what ever you need. But coding a stance change character is difficult, SL Iroh was the 4th character I coded and even then was pretty challenging.

hello creater(s) of iroh i was wondering if i may ask you questions on how you made specifically two aspects of iroh work as i'm trying to make my own workshop character that would have something similar to sanguine lightning stance, as well as the no i frames air dash launcher. i'm not intending to steal anything from the character, just wanting to know how to code a whole different set of stats. also i love iroh a lot even if i suck with him, very fun, fundamentalistic footsie character.

@KennEH! This character is ineligible because he came out before the contest was announced. They did not allow any previous characters released to be included, so we can't include him unfortunately.

@Opengunner, Thank you for this amazing character! you have a real talent for creating characters. I loved Iroh before and when you released DE I didn't now how to feel about it, it was so different for the original but once I got to play him he was SUCH and improvement. So thank you!

Iroh is my favorite Workshop character! Everything from the combos to the sprite work is just phenominal. Keep up the great work!:kragg:

@Opengunner Oh I see. It's strange though, I've only ever had this issue when fighting against specifically Daora, all the other times I've never crashed with Iroh UNLESS the other play loaded Daora

@236NintenSt I have seen this crash before, specifically on Iroh. I don't think it has anything to do with Daora. But it specifically crashes during the sprite loading and I don't really know why Problem is that I am not sure what causes it or how to fix it, I have been changing stuff on Iroh since release to try to fix this but I can't recreate it very well. It comes and goes. I don't know how to really address it though, since something crashing while allocating sprite data is not something I can really debug. This means it crashes before it even loads the code for the character.

@236NintenST Sorry for the late response, I have been a bit busy this week. I got a simialr notice on Daora's page about this (which I assume is your friend?) Let me see if I can recreate this issue this weekend. Is there any crash report or indication of why it crashes? In the mean time, sometimes files don't properly download or patch so could I ask you and the person you are playing with to try to unsubscribe and resubscribe from both characters to see if there is potentially an incorrect file? It's like validating files on steam.

Hey absolutely love this character, definitely one of my fave workshop characters. Idk if it's been pointed out but you cannot play him with or against someone playing Daora. The game always seemingly crashes when me and my friend try to.

Iroh's SL ground dash can't actually be canceled into any attack, the animation has to finish before an attack comes out; so in practice you can't attack at any point before the max distance of SL Dash's is reached, limiting it's utility as a approach option. Most dashes work the way you actually described it.

Character in my opinion is perfect, sprite's and sfx are great, and the victory theme is just a banger, he also feel's like a combination of ssb4 bayonetta and ssbu pikachu albeit balanced enough to where you can only feel hint's of their overpoweredness, but one thing I would love to see a Tai Lung skin.

@neurosis51 - Yeah, doing a lot of dynamic programming for Fspecial location versus moving could introduce some problems into the character, and old Iroh was known as very buggy, so I tried to keep it stable for release. I may revisit it in the past. But Iroh has a history of causing issues in brackets, so I am wary of buffing him in any capacity right now. I play in brackets so making sure I got everything well tuned is important to me.

@opengunner hmm, I get your intent with not wanting the F-special being overpowered, but the way the hit and hurt boxes align don't come off as intentional since they don't line up in a way that reflects the direction chosen, it's all the same.And as for the up-special, it is a good kill option, but I meant specifically not going into pratfall only when you connect with it, but if you say tourney players are still complaining about it even in Iroh's normal state,then I guess give it some more time like you said. I thought old Iroh was clunky and unfun to play for the most part.

@hyper charcola 9000, You can see the SL sprite in the CSS if you use the sub menu -> extra alts -> show SL sprites. You can also shift the alts to access more made by some of his beta testers.

@neurosis51 Regarding Fspecial, the hitbox beating the hurtbox is not the intended thing regarding it. I should have some draw back, because it is a fast advancing move that combos well, sets status, gives excellent movement, can ground bounce, can mix up recovery, it can do a lot. This and Nspecial are already getting requests to be nerfed from the competitive folks, so I may just hold on it for now and get more competitive data first before making it any better. He already took 1st and 2nd place at the 1st bracket he was played in, he might be a bit strong tbh.

@neurosis51 : Regarding Uspec into prat, Old iroh used to not go into prat on Uspec and it was one of the things a lot of people in the competitive did not like, so it was removed. I focused on fixing a lot of the things the comp folks did not light. The only suggestion I would say is avoid using the move at the percents where they wouldn't be in hitstun already. I have gotten requests already to nerf this move cause it has good power and can be used to get early kills off the top. I am sorta holding steady on it for a bit.

I mentioned this already, but landing U-special in normal mode not putting you in pratfall definitely be a improvement; if not for game-feel reasons than just the combo potential alone. I look to VVizard's Blaziken as the example for this since his U-special works the same way, you get rewarded at low percents with it by being able to follow with something else, not end up minus on hit for even landing it. Right now the opponent either lands before you to punish or just hits you while they recover from hit stun while still in mid air.

I do have one suggestion, I think you should add something to the CSS to show the SL fur color of whatever color you're using. Like maybe some electricity in the top right corner?

I think the hit and hurt box on Iroh's F-special should be changed; the hitbox is a thin horizontal oval no matter what direction you are flying and the hurtbox isn't aligned with where his body actually is for most angles, it's just his standing hurtbox; so basically zipping up and down has your hurtbox extending way beyond your actual hitbox making it unnecessarily disadvantageous since it's still that thin horizontal shape. I'd say make the hitbox a circle covering all of him with a bit of disjoint and change the hurtbox to that outline style I see with some other workshop characters for accuracy.

Would you consider preventing Iroh from going into pratfall if he lands his U-special? It's a decent method to mark an opponent, but at lower percents even when hitting the sweet spot you get punished for hitting since the opponent can act before you.

@opengunner there are a few of base cast whom possess a jab 3 that combos, like you said Orcane is 1, but there is also Ori, Olympia, and Etalus; so out of the 11 who have jab 3 only 4 of them combo. I wouldn't call it a rule not to combo, but you already said Iroh's is based on Zetter's so disregard my suggestion on that end.

@neurosis51, Jab 3 should not true combo in Rivals. His frame data is based on Zetterburn's combo, which is escapable. This is intentional. Only exception to this that I am aware of is Orcane's.

His 3 jab combo doesn't true combo. This actually seems to be the case for like 90% of workshop characters i've used, not sure why how the basic normal string is never tested to see if it has a enough hitstun to actually link into itself properly.
