It's most likely not useful information to you now Aeon, but still thought it worth mentioning that with Vanilla gene extractors, they're unable to extract archite genes. That's probably why you weren't able to get the gene you wanted from them.

Thank you so much for this. I legit spent 4 ingame years trying to either buy or extract the ageless gene. I have 4 Sanguophage in my prison that I rotated through the stupid gene extractor for YEARS. With this, one scan (and one less Sanguophage) and I finally have my genepack. You saved this Archotech map campaign, I don't know how much longer I would have had patience for.

@JootaCee Bandit.Camp: Yes, try "Gene Extractor Tiers". Go into its mod settings to enable targeted gene extraction if you want that function on all tiers of its extractors.

Hey hey. I installed it and the No Sympathy For Prisoners mod stopped working. I'm getting debuffs again for removing organs. Any fix?

The mod checks whether pawns on the map are colonists, prisoners, etc., but not whether they are ghouls, which is why they are not on the list. This is just one small code change to fix this.

Is it not an oversight that you can't put rip someone's gene while they're regrowing? Even the gene extractor will let you do that...

Not sure whats going on- gene ripper wont work on prisioners, only colonists. Im using the same mods I used pre 1.5- anyone else ahving this issue?

I think gene ripper should be behind its own research and require tech print. It is a bit too strong

Seeing as gene extractor DOES allow ghouls to have their genes extracted, I think this is intended behaviour.

Ghouls are not displayed when selecting a pawn.

@ladileo8781 I get this issue sometimes. Normally an uninstallation and reinstallation works. It's a steam workshop thing in general to fail to update files.

I agree with WireFire2 when he said "Is there a way to remove the requirement that they not be regrowing genes? They're going to die away this restriction makes no sense."

I can't put a prisoner in there to rip their genes out because their genes are regrowing and it will kill them...which it will do anyways. BUT, you have the option to put them in the gene extractor, which will kill them as well because their genes are growing back...makes no sense. Looked at the mod in folder 2885485814 and compared it with the parameters of the gene extractor and cannot for the life of me figure out what to edit to make the ripper work when they are regrowing genes, or what parameter is making it to where i cannot use the gene ripper.

there's a bug where the corpse gets stuck in the ripper after the process, and i have to deconstruct the entire machine and rebuild it to get the body out.

With that idea, would you still get the gene and it's just removed from the pawn, or is it destroyed when it's removed? That would actually be a nice config option to have come to think of it.

I recently had an idea to use the functionality in Gene Ripper to remove a character's specific gene without killing the character. I hope to add this feature. If you don't have the time, can I create a patch to implement this feature?

Ha ha. You can force two starting pawns with a custom genotype to give birth to a child, then shove it into a reaper, extract the genes and instill them in an already adult, trained pawn.

Love the mod, but question. Sometimes the Gene Ripper spits out a corpse (which I could then freeze and rez with mech serum) and sometimes the Gene Ripper spits out a pile of human meat, with no corpse. I'm fine, but clearly there is a mechanic here. Why is there nothing about this at all in the description? What are the chances/odd or one outcome of the other?

Honestly nothing about gene extraction makes any sense in Rimworld, with or without mods, so what's one more arbitrary limitation that has no basis in reality?

Made a version that hides archite genes in the select menu and expands the setting range to 1-72 hours.
