I agree the mountains are a bit too steep in some places, the idea was to make it hard to go through the mountain ranges... this was also the first map I made - in my
Westeros map the terrain features look more realistic.
I won't make a modded version, as that would force people to subscribe all the modded buildings to play the map, and each person prefers different building styles.
You can always subscribe tudor style buildings (Novu's has many great ones!), and pre-setup the buildings in the map before turning on realistic mode.
This should make the city functional, but for higher density buildings, it is better to expand to the open areas north or south of the mountain...

just try imagining this in context to the story.
I upgraded to 8.6 Test version and saved the map... I didn't know it would make it incompatible with 8.5 :(
I'll see if I can convert it back to work in 8.5, but in the mean time, you would need to enable the Beta test branch in Steam to be able to play this map.

Coal in the dead marshes makes sense indeed, I'll probably update the map in the weekend and also add a bit more trees
I was thinking as I was playing that the dead marshes might make sense rich in coal being basically a magic peat marsh?
Thank you for making this map
For the dwarf cities in Moria and also one in the Iron Hills, I flattened the mountain (in terrain editor), built the city, and then raised the mountains again on top of it.
It was a surprise for me too that the footpaths worked even if buried, hopefully they won't fix that... :D so, if you build the service buildings just outside the entrance you'll get a functional city.
I added a couple more screenshots of the details inside of Moria, that are not visible in the game
But also, HOW did you do Moria? I was impressed enough by the Shire and then I noticed Moria
