Walrus is already the most efficient animal in Rimworld, it yields the most skin, meat and money for what it requires to tame and breed. There’s biology, and then there’s Rimworld game balancing.

Any biologist will tell you that walruses and seals are the most intelligent species in nature and very easily trained. You can look videos in youtube what they can do when trained.
It so strange that they can't be trained to haul and rescue (at least the walrus) in your mod.

And penguins are also very very smart:laughing_yeti:

@Argonant I have issue with that as well. One way of solving that I've found is putting an egg laying box in a warm area and allow the penguins access. That way when they are ready to lay their eggs they'll go to the box and place them there.

Honestly, though, I feel like Penguins should place their eggs in their inventory or something (if they have one) to mimic how real penguins always have their eggs with them when traveling. Far as I've noticed, eggs don't seem to become ruined by temperature if they are in someone's inventory until they are dropped no matter how cold or hot the environment is. That, or penguins could get a nest creating mechanic where they create something similar to a storage box where only eggs are placed inside the nest, keeping them warm till hatching. Maybe have it so they make the nests at 80% egg development and then have the nest break upon the egg hatching or being removed.

I feel like seals and walrus should also be digging up fish to eat. just maybe not have them dig up enough to fully sate their hunger so they still hunt

Great mod, but penguin eggs never seem to hatch as they always get ruined by the freezing temperature on the ice sheets. It would be great if you could tweak that.

I'm rather suprised that seals are "Trainability none." ..as Seals can be trained, rather well considering they can be trained to do tricks, and are decently smart.

I mean, Seals have been identified to Seen to understand symmetry, transitivity and equivalence
They have been Observed bobbing their head to music (Something which actually does require intelligence - it’s rhythmic entertainment and embodies pattern recognition)
They can be Trained to speak an artificial sign language, which includes basic syntax
And they are Known to have long-term memory (They can perform the ball balancing act after 3 months of not doing it)

This mod is great, but can you tweak the Walrus data? Walruses are too heat-resistant, which makes it impossible for me to raise them anywhere except on the ice sheet. In reality walruses can also live very well in warm aquariums.

Blubber! (This is a request). Animals like seals and walruses were hugely important to early arctic tribes, but not only for their meat and skin. Blubber provided a source of fuel that allowed cooking stoves and oil lamps that provided utility, light, and that most critically desired part of arctic life: Warmth. Ideally I'd request that you add blubber and assorted items to make use of it, but paired with a mod like Burn It For Fuel simply adding blubber harvesting alone would allow this key element of arctic survival.

I keep getting some error messages with this mod alongside CE at the game menu. No other VAE mod does that. Do you guys knows anything about it or should I ask at a CE forum?

The problem with sea ice is that it has almost no creatures. Half the density of Ice Sheet, which is already minimal.

For an alien super cold biome with many creatures, I made the Propane Lakes for Alpha Biomes.

Can we expect a vanilla animals expanded sea ice? I've been itching to do a sea ice playthrough but there aren't very many mods that add sea ice creatures besides this one.

I'm getting some errors here related to Combat Extended. I thought that the VAE mod series would come patched for CE but when I took a look at the files, I'm not seeing any CE-related patches? Am I missing something some files?

No it doesn't, as animals still have to follow the ecosystem strength - Ice sheet can only support X animals at the same time. It just allows the game to choose from not only vanilla animals, but also these ones.

this just makes ice sheet really easy right? i enjoy playing on ice sheet for the difficulty and i wouldnt really like to change that. Mod looks awesome and I will probably check it out regardless though!

Vanilla Animals Expanded is for the normal animals, Alpha Animals is for the weird shit :)
