A Lucky Break

It was updated a while ago. Unfortunately since Larian chose to separate the DE in the launcher rather instead of making it a new listing, mods for both DE and vanilla share the same workshop. You can find the updated Lucky Break mod here:

Update?
Arsene Lupin  [author] 31 Aug, 2018 @ 4:33am
I'll update it as soon as the new version of the editor hits. Larian's ETA is simply "next week" for that, so please be patient.
madmaiden_rocks 31 Aug, 2018 @ 4:13am
plz update to DE thanks
Niteshade 9 Mar, 2018 @ 2:41pm
I'll read over that this weekend. I'm checking to see if the class mods I'm planning to use will function fully if I don't select them at game start due to some unique abilities and unlocks they have since as you said it would be easier to go the route u mentioned.
Appreciate the replies.

Check out the addendum in the description for my mod on the Nexus. I wrote up a brief tutorial for anyone who wants to modify the presets on their own.

https://www.nexusmods.com/divinityoriginalsin2/mods/16

That said, it'd be easier (and faster) to just take a screenshot of whatever abilities the class mod preset starts out w/, and then select those same abilities w/ a different preset.
Niteshade 8 Mar, 2018 @ 7:13pm
Makes sense. I need to see if I can find out if Helaenes class mods and abilities will all work properly if I "start" with another preset. Or look into bow I can give those new classes the same amount of starter points as what your mod provides.
Arsene Lupin  [author] 8 Mar, 2018 @ 6:07pm
Don't worry, it's not stupid at all.

DOS2 is a classless game. No classes, only builds. During creation, you choose a class preset, which is just a level 1 build.

The class preset is ultimately meaningless. It only effects your starting skills and points (which can be changed during creation) and the starting gear in the tutorial chest. Nothing else.

This mod replaces Larian's original class presets with a new set, providing additional points during character creation (the only time when the class preset information is used). Therefore, if you have a mod that introduces a new class, that new class preset will *not* benefit from the additional point pools.

If you're using a mod that adds new abilities or skills to the game, you should still be able to use it w/ my mods, provided you do NOT use its preset. What this means is that you'll want to select one of the vanilla class presets (it does not matter which) and then customize w/ abilities/skills injected by the new class mod.

Having been away from the Divinity mods for awhile I've been watching over the newer stuff in hopes of finding some good ones for when I finally get a chance to take a break from my other games.

This is probably an stupid Q , but I wanted to double check. As long as it's a completely new class as is mentioned in the description above , like Healanes Vampre or her other new class mods this should work with them?
Arsene Lupin  [author] 25 Jan, 2018 @ 9:09pm
Yeah, you need to go into "Mods" from the main menu and activate a mod for it to work.
JediKnStelon 24 Jan, 2018 @ 4:08pm
I attempted to try this today, being the first mod I used, and nothing happened. I went to the Wizard template and still didn't see the additional points. Just the core 3 points.

Am I doing something wrong than just subscribing?
Arsene Lupin  [author] 27 Dec, 2017 @ 12:14pm
Nope. But remember, DOS2 is a classless game, so you can always use of of the default class presets and modify it to match the modded preset.

The only thing that is hard-locked to your initial preset is the starting gear.
Rapknife 26 Dec, 2017 @ 8:19pm
Do you plan make this possible for mod classes
Arsene Lupin  [author] 17 Dec, 2017 @ 9:13pm
??? What are you talking about?
Drawn&QuarteredTrump 16 Dec, 2017 @ 11:36pm
Only using this mod. It bugged me and made it so I couldn't continue to Windega while at the start of the game in The Hold. WTF
Arsene Lupin  [author] 11 Dec, 2017 @ 11:52am
Maybe, but it would be considerably more difficult to pull off. Frankly I don't have the time to look into it myself.
the-twist 9 Dec, 2017 @ 2:01pm
Any way to maybe add points for leels gained? I want to respec my party but the mirror changes origin character portraits which really bothers me
Niteshade 6 Dec, 2017 @ 2:30pm
Maybe I'll look into it at some point. I Like the stat gain changes more on A Lucky Break than the other but unless I use The Void Knight as a preset I guess I wouldn't need to worry about it to much. If it doesn't have unique preset start skills it may not matter much.
Was mainly curious since I'm not very knowledgeable with missing myself.
Arsene Lupin  [author] 6 Dec, 2017 @ 11:58am
Maybe? It took me a lot of trial-and-error to get everything working right, but once you know what you're doing it's pretty easy. Just a matter of changing some variables here and there.
Niteshade 4 Dec, 2017 @ 5:47pm
If i wanted to make this or a patch work with a custom preset would it be an overly difficult process?
Arsene Lupin  [author] 2 Nov, 2017 @ 1:26pm
This mod only affects the default class presets. It will not work with any mod that introduces *new* class presets.
Ken Uaena 2 Nov, 2017 @ 1:17pm
This one mod break costume for Nikky race mode (Character appear with no armor/weapon on creation screen)
Tempest mode don't work with this on the go as well, need to choose difference class then learn the skill later to get the boost
Arsene Lupin  [author] 31 Oct, 2017 @ 11:06am
Yup. Every character will get the extra points. If you'd rather only the player-character gets them, or if you'd prefer to be able to pick-and-choose, there are other versions on the Nexus.
ROHAN 31 Oct, 2017 @ 11:04am
so this gives the boost to all charachters? so when i recruit the other NPCs in Fort Joy they will have more points to play with?
Niteshade 28 Oct, 2017 @ 2:45pm
Ah not entirely able to mimic the Void Knight preset w/a different preset. Would just have to buy the Void Knight skill books afterwards while playing. Not a deal break tho I suppose.
So I figured that out, now whether I decide to stick with A Lucky Break or use your other stat start mod I'm covered.
Niteshade 27 Oct, 2017 @ 1:57pm
Next time I get a chance I will check to see if I can just tweak another preset to use all the Void Knight abilities. Been awhile since I had a chance to poke around Divinity
Arsene Lupin  [author] 26 Oct, 2017 @ 10:23pm
Hm... well, keep in mind that DOS2 is a classless game. The class presets are just that: pre-set selections of starting abilities/stats. You can freely customize any preset to any other preset. So if the "Void Knight" class mod is just a preset, there's no need for a workaround: you can simply modify any of the existing presets to match it.
Niteshade 26 Oct, 2017 @ 9:09pm
Believe its a preset, they have a work around patch for your other mod, but i prefer A Lucky Break's changes over the other.
Arsene Lupin  [author] 26 Oct, 2017 @ 3:45pm
Dunno, somewhere between "very easy" and "not that hard," I imagine. Depends mostly on whether or not the Void Knight class is just a preset, or if it adds or modifies other aspects of the game.
Niteshade 26 Oct, 2017 @ 2:28pm
How hard would it be to make a fix or patch for this to work with the Void Knight class?
kensw 26 Oct, 2017 @ 10:55am
The update seems to have automatically turned off all mods you need to recheck them
Retrospaz 25 Oct, 2017 @ 7:55pm
Ahh, crap, it was the latter, I thought they autoactivate upon install! Thanks!
Arsene Lupin  [author] 25 Oct, 2017 @ 7:43pm
No, it still works. And TBH I don't think it's even possible for an update to break it. You've probably got a conflict with another mod, or simply forgot to activate it in the menu.
Retrospaz 25 Oct, 2017 @ 6:47pm
Has this not been working since the update? I just reinstalled Divinity and no bueno :(
crankdawg47 23 Oct, 2017 @ 2:04pm
Appologies for the previous comment. The error I found was do to an undocumented feature in another mod I had installed. Took me a while to find it because it was (supposed to be) only a mod to add additional skills to learn.
Arsene Lupin  [author] 14 Oct, 2017 @ 2:35pm
It shouldn't. It only effects the class-presets, which are just the arrangments of stats and abilities at level 1.
Dio 14 Oct, 2017 @ 2:30pm
Does it also buff the enemy? I downloaded a boost mod and without knowing the enemy were even tougher than I.
Arsene Lupin  [author] 10 Oct, 2017 @ 11:07am
Yes and no. If you use the workshop version here, the changes will be applied to all of your companions. If you only want these changes to be applied to your player character, you can use one my saved games (which start @ the beginning of the tutorial) or use the one preset only PAKs (which will let you decide which character does or does not get the extra points) both of which are included in the version of this mod at the Nexus.
Pipedream420 10 Oct, 2017 @ 9:29am
Also, amazing work on your mod. Keep it up.
Pipedream420 10 Oct, 2017 @ 9:29am
Does this mod affect NPCs? Will they have the same stats at level 1 as I do? If it does not effect NPCs, is there anyway to make that happen? That would make it more balanced and still give me the amount of stats I feel comfortable with.
Silent 7 Oct, 2017 @ 7:42am
thanks!
Silent 6 Oct, 2017 @ 3:01pm
there's nothing on nexus.
Niteshade 30 Sep, 2017 @ 12:51am
Ah I see, that explains the similarity then. Thanks for the clarification, had no idea the cafe was named after the author tho, thats pretty cool.
And also thanks for the prompt replies :)
Arsene Lupin  [author] 29 Sep, 2017 @ 10:31pm
...

Anyway, Persona 5 draws a lot of inspiration from Maurice LeBlanc's work. That's where the name of the cafe where you live comes from, after all. If Persona 5 is your thing, then trust me, Arsene Lupin is very much *also* your thing.
Arsene Lupin  [author] 29 Sep, 2017 @ 10:31pm
The short stories in particular are a *lot* of fun. Clever, brilliant, sometimes sinister, often mischevious. If you enjoy reading, you owe it to yourself to read some of LeBlanc's stories. You can start here:

https://www.amazon.com/Arsene-Lupin-Maurice-Leblanc-ebook/dp/B0082XLLNW/ref=la_B000APKH9E_1_6?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1506749269&sr=1-6&refinements=p_82%3AB000APKH9E%2Cp_n_feature_browse-bin%3A618073011

Much of LeBlanc's work is in the public domain, so you can find a lot of it for free. I cannot possibly recommend the Lupin stories enough--that's why I chose the name.

Arsene Lupin  [author] 29 Sep, 2017 @ 10:31pm
....

Anyway, Niteshade... thanks for giving me this opportunity to proselytize:

No, my username is not based off of Persona 5, but it *is* tangentially related to Persona 5.

Arsene Lupin is the protagonist of a series of short stories and novels written in turn-of-the-century France by Maurice LeBlanc. They have since been translated into many languages and adapted into many media, including comics, movies, plays, games and animation.

If you've ever heard of the "gentleman thief" archetype... know that Arsene Lupin is the character who *created* that archetype.

Arsene Lupin  [author] 29 Sep, 2017 @ 10:31pm
I've had about six people contact me since I made the change. I like to respond to people who leave comments or message me promptly, so if I'm confusing people, I'm just making more work for myself.

And thinking about it more clearly, it's better to make the more generalized option (all presets) the default, and the more specialized option (only one preset) something special.

Niteshade 29 Sep, 2017 @ 10:09pm
I see, I had no complaints, i had just seem in the notes and thought the wizard only option was new since I didn't recall it from the last time I checked the description page and wanted to make sure nothing had gone wrong :) Love the mod itself tho, appreciate the work :)

Btw, your name wouldn't happen to be inspired from Persona 5 would it?
Arsene Lupin  [author] 29 Sep, 2017 @ 10:06pm
The mod only affects character creation, because that's the only place the character presets are used.

It might be possible to make a mod that alters how many points you earn during level-up, but I don't know how to do that. And I wouldn't be interested in that kind of mod, anyway, as it would quickly become too powerful.

I'll be rolling back the mod later tonight. In general it seems that limiting it to a single class just causes too much confusion. I'll upload the Wizard-only version to the Nexus, though, for anyone who wants it.
