Update: 17 Dec, 2022 @ 11:20am

Balancing update, and made the spec much less common. (see below)

  • Moved Fire First down to the Captain/Major/Colonel ability pool. (instead of just Colonel)
  • Moved Trade Fire to Brigadier, where it's now a 50% chance alongside Critical X.
  • Updated ability comments to follow newer specs. (cooldowns, passive/active, etc.)
  • Excluded specs for better rarity: Gunslinger, Executioner, Stukov's Assassin/Scout
  • Excluded Stukov's Rogue as it's built around weapons lighter than rifles.

Due to this update adding further spec exclusions, existing campaigns may run into a situation where some Mavericks no longer have a valid class. This is shown by the game as a missing class icon and description, and all perks showing as yellow. (available)

If you run into this issue, please do one of the following:
  1. The Amalgamation Console Helper will let you recreate your character by opening the console and typing in "randomizeclass Maverick OldSecondaryHere any true" or "randomizeclass Maverick any OldTertiaryHere true", replacing the spec that was removed with "any". You can use "countspecs" to see a quick list of all installed specs and their internal names.

  2. If you want to keep the class as it was originally, open this mod's XComAmalgamation config file (right-click in AML, Show In Explorer, config folder) and remove the exclusions manually. Save and restart the game, and everything should work as it did before. Reverting this change after completing the campaign is recommended. (to avoid encountering the same issue after a future update)

Sorry for the inconvenience! With all of the (excellent) recent spec releases, this old spec has become way more common than it was ever meant to be, making it so rifles were extremely over-represented. Adding more exclusions now is, unfortunately, a necessary evil.
