A6M5c Type 0 / Bakusen

Description
A Brief History:

The Mitsubishi A6M "Zero" was a long-range fighter aircraft, manufactured by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, and operated by the Imperial Japanese Navy from 1940 to 1945. The A6M was designated as the Mitsubishi Navy Type 0 Carrier Fighter, or the Mitsubishi A6M Rei-sen. The A6M was usually referred to by its pilots as the "Reisen" (zero fighter), "0" being the last digit of the Imperial year 2600 (1940) when it entered service with the Imperial Navy. The official Allied reporting name was "Zeke", although the use of the name "Zero" was later commonly adopted by the Allies as well.

When it was introduced early in World War II, the Zero was considered the most capable carrier-based fighter in the world, combining excellent maneuverability and very long range (for the time). The Imperial Japanese Navy Air Service ("IJNAS") also frequently used the type as a land-based fighter.

Sometimes considered to be the most effective variant, the Model 52 (A6M5) was developed with shortened wings to increase speed and dispense with the folding mechanism. In addition, ailerons, aileron trim tabs, and flaps were revised into more simplistic "flaperons" by adding a mechanism called a "mixer" into the plane's mechanics. In the case of the A6M5c, a Type 3 machine gun was added in each wing outboard of the main cannon, and the 7.7mm gun on the left side of the cowl was removed. Four racks for rockets or small bombs were also installed outboard of the 13mm gun in each wing. Some Model 21 and 52 aircraft were converted over to "Bakusen" (fighter-bombers) by altering the 300L drop-tank mount to instead carry a 250kg bomb in its place.

Known Issues:
  • Sometimes the tail landing gear doesn't like to deploy entirely. I've tried my best to fix it, but to no avail. It seems to happen most when the landing gear are deployed/retracted above 50m/s. Again, slower is always better.

  • These craft feature only small ammounts of fuel. I suggest use of the "Hydrogen Revamped" mod to get better consumption rates. - http://steamproxy.net/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=689090005&searchtext=hydrogen+revamped

  • In order to get the most out of this plane's thrust package, I suggest a speed mod. Maximum level airspeed for this model (fully-loaded with ammunition) is approximately 155+m/s.

New and improved showcase world! The old testing world got over-written, so I went all out and built a brand new testing facility. Not only has the testing range been improved, but to mark the occasion, I present a new model as well; the British jet-powered Gloster Meteor F. Mk.III! Please un-sub from the old one and re-sub to the new one in order to continue receiving new models and world updates. Sorry for the inconvenience is causes.

Minor update. If you you now activate the Kamikaze Tactical Explosive Charge BEFORE having dropped the Fuel Drop-Tank Bomb, it will be armed (but not released) as well in order to ensure maximum damage on impact.

As of now you will no longer need the Conveyor Hinges mod as the Plane Parts mod now incorporates hinge-style motors.

Updated suspension settings in order to make take-offs waaay easier. The fuel-frop tank still weighs it down a bit, but you don't have to straight hold the stick to your chest in order to take-off anymore either.
