This is a list of convenience mods chosen to smooth out the rough edges on Starbound without changing its underlying game mechanics. Its purpose is very similar to Starbound Fixes (Quality of Life Mods), but with a few different decisions, and while being slightly more conservative about altering the behavior of existing content.

I recommend using this mod collection for a first run through Starbound to get a good feel for what Starbound itself has to offer, just without struggling through the many frustrations of its many glaring flaws. Those flaws include the obtuse interface, the laughably poor loot rate, or the essential impossibility of setting up a farm without stripping an entire star system of its few seeds.

After being properly disappointed with the empty shell that Starbound offers, only then do I recommend adding ambitious content mods like Frackin Universe to the mix. Consider Starbound to be less like Terraria, and more like Minecraft. It is a meatless skeleton awaiting community content creation. I think it's valuable to play it at least once without added content to really appreciate that fact.
