but do all of these still work in a unpressurized world?

No, there were no changes in any blocks.
The updates were necessary because some sensors settings and block group handling have changed over the time.
The changes were needed to address this issues.
To make these old modules airtight would be a major task.

what was the update most of these modules had on january 3? was it pressurization?

We started a whole new series of station modules. But sadly Keen broke the game in between and the thing lost its momerntum.
These modules were build to be airtight and performance friendly.

I found that some of the windows were the problem, not sure at exactly which ones were an issues though.

I changed the octagon windows to square windows, removed the light armor slopes and made them normal light armor on the slanted windows near the top and bottom, and removed the triangle windows around the edges at the top and bottom of the promenade and the sloped armor blocks and put light armor blocks in their place.

Just a heads up if you ever wanted to go back and make it airtight.

All modules were created long before there was any oxygen in the game. So naturally none of the modules was designed with airtightness in mind.

I've noticed after building this a few times one of the openings has an extra steel catwalk plate covering the upper conveyor tubes. Also is it just me or is this specific module not air tight. I just cant seem to get it to pressurize. I love the Modular Station series, but this one not pressurizing makes it hard to use in survival.
