A muggy summer night.

If you would like a daytime version, check out the map here.

//Requirements//
Nothing should be required as it should all be packed into the bsp. The map file itself should be "rp_city17transitblock_prewar_night", minus the quotation marks.

Do note that while no game should be required, the size and scope of the map might cause some issues for users on lower end PCs despite rigorous optimization. As well, be aware that despite attempts to prevent conflicts, other workshop items might still conflict with assets used in the map.

//Gameplay//
  • Combination of unique geometry from 12 maps from Half-Life 2, including every d1_trainstation map, two d1_canal maps, and four d3_c17 maps!
  • Six shops; two of which are in and near the plaza, two of which are down near the apartments seen in Half-Life 2, and two on the eastern side of the map close to the highways.
  • Interiors and exteriors de-combined, and cleaned up overall. Trees and grass are fully green
  • Four different apartment buildings; including the one seen in the trainstation levels, one custom building, and two seen in the d3_c17 maps.
  • The entire train station, cleaned and de-combined
  • Part of the canals with higher water levels
  • Three secluded courtyards
  • Spawn room with four teleport destinations
  • Part of the underground highway
  • Kleiner's lab including the former HEV suit room and teleport room.
  • Working traffic lights and quite a long stretch of road, running from the d3_c17 maps back towards the d1_trainstation maps
  • AI nodes across the map. A few aerial nodes in certain areas.
  • Night time theme

While in the Gmod Sandbox mode, any dead bodies, blood stains, activated map scripts or other changes can be cleaned/reset using this: Pressing Q -> Utilities -> Admin -> Cleanup -> Cleanup Everything

//Development//
I had wanted to do a night version of this map, ever since I released the originals, though for a time I wanted to focus on creating newer content.

Working on this now, I thankfully had some previous maps I could pull from. The obvious one being the Night version of my train station map. I pulled some of the sprites and skybox lighting techniques from those. Then I pulled some stuff from the two snow & night maps. The big ones being the lens flares for distant windows.

The trickiest part of making this though was getting the lighting to look right since things had to be somewhat bright and imply activity in or near distant buildings. A sub part of this was getting the lightmaps to be sufficiently high enough to look good.

I hope you enjoy this little rework. I think my next map might be something a bit different though...
