Cables and plumbing

Description
Do you find it weird how pawns directly build power cables out of a single piece of steel on the bare ground in under a second ? Do you wish to run a wiring/pipe theft operation? Do you just desire to make your game slightly more complex for masochistic reasons? Well! Look no further!

I offer you Cables and plumbing, inspired by the mountains of utilities sitting in my storage in Prison Architect and my will to make the game slightly more complex. (not for masochistic reasons, unlike you)

Cables and plumbing adds two new items, all in the manufactured category:
- Electrical cables
- Pipes

And that's it!

Electrical cables can be made at the crafting spot, after unlocking electricity, from steel and cloth, and alternatively at the machining table with steel and chemfuel.
Pipes can also be made at the crafting spot from steel, and then at both the machining table and the smithy
Do note that due to improper tools, recipes at the crafting spot are inefficient, and not profitable. I advise you instead to use your trustyworthy machining table.

MOST IMPORTANTLY

Power conduits are PATCHED, and now cost you actual electrical cables! (Who would have thought?)
Same thing for waterproof conduits (except you still need another protective steel layer).

FAQ

Q: Can i safely add/remove this from my save?
A: Add, yes. remove, yes BUT only if no items/recipes are present ANYWHERE on the map, even then i cannot guarantee anything as items are still present in hauling zones menu.

Q: CE?
A: OF COURSE. You can't hurt people with pipes though.

Q: Can I update/maintain/expand on this mod?
A: Of course. I would be more than happy to see this mod live and be expanded upon.

Q: Cable drums aren't supposed to be stored like that.
A: Organs aren't supposed to be extracted from unwilling prisoners.


License & Credits

You're free to update, modify, expand on, copy, redistribute as long as you give credits where its due (or as long as you don't pretend you made it)
This goes particularly for the art, you can dissect the xml the way you want, i do not particularly care.

Some items from the previews come from Vanilla Furniture Expanded, VFE - Props and Decor and Dubs Bad Hygiene (both great mods btw), credits to their respective authors.

MedicalPol for everything (else, of course).

A similar section to this one exists in the mod files, please keep it there when redistributing or reuploading this mod.

This works perfectly fine in 1.5.
Just edit the About.xml file to 1.5 and you are good to go.
I can confirm it works on vanilla hidden conduits.

Can you make an optional patch for adding rubber from https://steamproxy.net/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3046070864&searchtext= to the cables? Or maybe more fitting would be for the conduits that don't short circuit in the rain.

Suggestion: have two types of cables: insulated and uninsulated. Insulated cables require chemfuel + metal to craft (steel, or copper with EM Metals) and uninsulated don't require chemfuel.

Vanilla conduits are built with uninsulated cables, hence are vulnerable to the bzzzt event, however all other types of conduits (undergroun conduits for instance) use insulated cables, explaining why they don't allow the bzzzt event.

So far I'm satisfied with how this mod turned out to be and I don't plan to expand on it the time being, as I have not only other projects, but also matters irl to attend. Do note tho that I read every of the comments I get and some of the propositions I see are interesting

Have you looked into the mods that have rubber farming? Would be awesome to have some recipes that provide rubber coated cables. Many thanks for the awesome mod!
