Description

Over The Shoulder
This mod adds another camera option to Space Engineers.
Over-the-shoulder is a camera view point that is featured in most modern third-person shooters and action games.
It is also used in film and television, where the camera is placed above the back of the shoulder and head of a subject.

Features
  • Pressing "Camera Mode key" [V] cycles between vanilla cameras and the Shoulder Camera. Pressing [F9] goes directly to it.
  • It still works even if third person camera is disabled, also if spectator camera is disabled;
  • The camera checks for collisions with the world;
  • Two different zoom levels;
  • Controller mode friendly;
  • Works well with guns and tools equipped;
  • Works on all screen ratios and FOVs;

Chat Config Commands
  • /otscam hold <true/false> - If false, player doesn't need to hold the "Secondary Action key" [RightMouseButton] to zoom;
  • /otscam zoom <true/false> - If false, the zoom is disabled, the "Secondary Action key" [RightMouseButton] won't do anything;
  • /otscam enabled <true/false> - If false, the Shoulder camera is disabled. Useful if a server has it but the player doesn't want it;
  • /otscam collision <true/false> - If false, the camera won't collide with the world. Only available locally, or by admins on servers;
  • /otscam left <true/false> - If true, camera will be positioned left side. It can look strange because the character use right shoulder to point.
  • /otscam keybind <true/false> - If false, the camera will not cycle using "Camera Mode key" [V]. It still available with F9 key. Since F9 may not work on server I also added "Alt + V" as alternative to cycle even when keybind is false, must be in first person view.
Example: /otscam zoom true
Configs are saved to mod settings folder, it persists across world saves.

Using it on Interiors
Most games that have this shoulder camera have a level design that helps it not collide too much with the world. Since SE has a lot of freedom it would be up to you the design of things. You can disable the collision with the command, but then the camera would see thru the walls in certain cases (that is why I disabled this feature on multiplayer).
With some time testing, I got used to prevent some collisions myself by moving the camera away from walls.

@paced938 maybe the modded weapons are set as tools instead of weapons. Tools are set to aim at short distance so that would explain it being “wrong”.
Can you send a link or name of one of the weapons that is having this issue?

sorry i meant to the right not the left

Been having issues with some modded weapons intermittently, where they point and fire to the left. On some worlds it works fine with most, and sometimes not at all. Should this load after modded weapons maybe?

@tylerjordan360 What? Hahaha... Do you know how to reproduce it?
If I can reproduce it locally I can try to fix it.
Thanks

I encountered a weird bug where when using the Jetpack I would just teleport backwards. It was quite funny lol.

@The Riel Hey thanks for reporting, this camera is actually the spectator camera placed as third person camera, but the tooltip is strange. Maybe it is some config you can disable? I will check if I can see it and disable it by code.

I cannot seem to piece together why I am seeing a tool tip for spectator mode while using 3rd person view. It shows up at the far top middle-right of the screen, quite annoyingly.

@Rushlow Hmm.. I see. Working when the 3rd person is disabled is actually a feature since there are cases that you want to disable that long distance camera but keep this one.

But I see the problem, we can think something else to solve it.

Try disabling spectator camera, this camera is basically that camera positioned near the player.
