Popis
New Update:
  • Major update: "take baby to safety" code rewritten more or less from scratch. Hopefully this will fix a large number of errors with this area of gameplay. See discussion post here for full detail.
  • You may see one-off errors during save game loading as a result of this update. Hopefully they shouldn't cause ongoing problems.
  • Added missing Translate keys for "return to crib", "let out of crib"
  • Updated the way I do debug logging to make it harder for myself to accidentally leave tons of logspam active when I update
  • Toddlers should no longer attempt to skydream in unsafe temperatures, therefore avoiding an infinite loop of going outside and being retrieved by adults

New life stage: Toddler
  • 1- and 2-year-old pawns are no longer completely passive objects
  • toddlers cannot work, but can move around and interact with the world
  • toddlers gain capabilities over time – configurable
  • young toddlers are blocked by doors and can be confined to their cribs, but once they learn to walk they can also open doors and climb out of cribs
  • toddlers can fill their play need on their own for a while, but still need regular adult interaction
  • older toddlers can feed themselves if baby food is left where they can reach it

Improved babies
  • no expectations
  • configurable rate of fall for Play need
  • babies are no longer made of antifreeze – configurable
  • make baby clothes to protect your babies and toddlers from the elements

FAQ
Growth Vats?
Toddlers can be grown in growth vats. They will not gain skills, just as they would not outside the vat. They will improve at walking and manipulation.
Adding to existing saves
If you have no pawns aged 1 or 2 years old, you do not have to do anything special. The mod will take effect automatically when babies hit 1 year old.

If you have 1- and 2- year olds, they will automatically turn into toddlers but they will not automatically receive the "learning to walk"/"learning manipulation" hediffs. To fix this:
  1. Turn on Development Mode from the main menu.
  2. You should see a row of new icons at the top of the screen. Choose Open Debug Actions Menu
  3. In the search bar in the top left, type "toddler" (no quotation marks) to find the option "T: Reset Toddler Hediffs". Click on it.
  4. While your mouse has the text "T: Reset Toddler Hediffs" next to it, click on all the toddlers that need the new hediffs. They can be a bit difficult to target. If you're having difficulty, try and catch them sleeping or otherwise not moving.
  5. Note that toddlers older than about 2-and-2-quadrums may not have/need the hediffs as they've already finished learning both capacities.

Compatibility
  • Facial Animation – compatible!
  • More Than Capable -- known issue due to toddlers being set to incapable of all work
  • GeneSeed -- reported INCOMPATIBLE -- pawns being deleted when taking the GeneSeed drug
  • Dubs Bad Hygiene -- compatible but toddlers have no hygiene/thirst needs, more interesting compatibility intended for the future
  • Celsius - known issues, the logic around moving toddlers to safe temperatures is confused by Celsius. You may or may not be able to get it working through careful use of allowed zones. A compatibility patch is on the to do list.
  • Roofless Hulls reported INCOMPATIBLE
  • Humanoid Alien Races -- (1.4 ONLY) effectively in beta! please do try it out and give feedback, but be aware that there are a number of as-yet-unresolved issues. 1.5 HAR compatibility is in the works.

Please Report:
  • any issues with adults "returning baby to safety"
  • error messages on opening the UI -- there's at least one problem around modded job roles but I don't know which mod(s) the interaction is with yet
  • any other problem that is not on the known issues list below

Known Issues:
  • [1.4] custom eye genes render in slightly the wrong place when facing East/West -- this is a vanilla bug
  • warning messages when adult pawns attempt to spawn in wearing baby hats -- this is a vanilla bug

  • toddlers play with items (on/off toggle for dangerous play)
  • insulated cribs and other tribal solutions to temperature regulation
  • more ways to keep a toddler occupied in the crib

Yes, I use the Children's Drawing mod. I wasn't aware, they are restricted to floor types. I believed, it was indoor/outdoor based.

I'm not likely to add tighter restrictions on toddler drawing areas than on child drawing in vanilla Biotech. I _believe_ I added the same restrictions on floor types that children have.

I am using Niilo's QoL with the germ feature and quarantine beds, that may be the problem.

@Zairya - For the floor drawing, is that the "Children's Drawings" mod?

@cyanobot - Another idea for the backburner could be baby gates or toddler pens. :) It would be a realistic solution for Zairya's issue and play into child proofing a base when you implement the ability for them to cause mischief.

Another very helpful thing would be, if the floor drawing could be limetted to a floor type or make a floor type preferred.
For some reason my little mousleings like to doodle in my public toilets... or around the large table in the tavern... okay, the latter is actually a bit cute... they doodled shrek taking down a castle tower xD

Thanks for letting me know - I probably won't get any more modding done before the new year at this point, but I'm still noting down things that need fixing.

I can add a toggle to the "putting to bed" notifications in Toddlers, that won't take long so it'll go near the top of my to do list. (Won't change vanilla, but should suit your needs.) The error is almost certainly an interaction of some kind so it will take me longer to track down, but I've made a note.

Hi cyanobot,

I'm still playing with Mousekin Race and handling babies is a bit... hard at times. But it's pretty fun thanks to your toddler mod and the baby apparel.
But do you know a mod or could add the option to prevent the message each time a pawn is putting a baby into bed? I have 3-6 babies and it's pretty annyoing. I saw a mod doing that months ago but can't remember the name.

There's also a red error I'd like to report. It could be related to my researchpal-like research organizier or I screwed something over with rimmsqol/ one of my private patches.

Yeah, 1.5 is not compatible with HAR yet. I've nearly cleared the stack of more urgent bugfixes so I'm hoping to start working on the HAR compatibility this coming week. Thanks for the report.
