Britannic Rim is a series of mods that spices up your game with British-inspired assets and tomfoolery. Each individual module of Britannic Rim can act as a standalone mod within it's own right. This module adds 130+ backstories and 4000+ new words to Rimworld.


This mod adds 130+ backstories to the pool. Each one delves into different aspects of British history and culture, in a mostly lore-friendly way – meaning that you needn’t worry about unusual backstory matchups across multiple backstory mods.

There’s also 3,300+ new name entries added to the game to help diversify the Rim and the settlements upon it. Pawns, animals, and orbital traders will be afflicted with the curse of the British, and you’ll no doubt receive quests from the Empire faction asking you to care for their three favourite cows:


Gone are the days where rowing pawns will compare one another to a raider or a donkey. Engie, the blighter, is now a toff, a dirty specimen, a gammon an absolute parcel. And that sculpture over there? It doesn’t convey hope or loss. It conveys three dinnerladies playing conkers while Gordon Ramsey watches from a marshy loch.

There’s over 900 new miscellaneous words added by this mod, so you’ll be sure to see some interesting conversations and artworks during your next run.

After making hair mods for eons, I wanted to branch out into a larger project wherein I could learn XML. Britannic Rim is that project: a comprehensive and slightly satirical series of mods that ultimately adds more British-themed content to Rimworld.

Not just the stereotypes- I mean, of course the stereotypes- but also more internationally overlooked aspects of Scottish, Welsh, Northern Irish and English life. The working-class spirit, the local accents and, you know, the GoCompare guy.

Q: Is this mod CE compatible?
A: Why not. Today, I declare that all mods are CE compatible.

Q: Can I add this to an existing save?
A: I wouldn’t. This mod works best when generating a world for the first time, as you get to set up your colony in wacky places like Glasgoing or even…Glasgone.

Q: I only want the medieval / urban backstories. OR I don’t want the funny backstories.
A: No problem. Each set of backstories has been exported as a separate XML file. Make a local copy of the mod, then go into Defs > BackstoryDefs > Shuffled. Delete whichever set of backstories you don’t want to appear in your game and bob’s your uncle.

Q: Is this mod safe to stream or play with my children?
A: That’s down to your own judgement. OFCOM guidelines deem most of the words used within this mod as medium intensity or lower. However, there’s a few that are considered by them to be strong, like nonce, bellend and nobhead. No F-bombs, S-bombs, or C-bombs though.

Q: Can you translate this mod / I want to translate this mod.
A: The words within this mod are quite intertwined with British localisms and slang, much of which I imagine is untranslatable into other languages. If you’re interested in translating this mod, I’m more than happy to help explain what some of the localisms mean.
