ABANDONED --- VFE: Props - No Research or Build Costs

Description
MOD IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH THE NEWEST 2.0.0 UPDATE TO VFE: PROPS. NO ETA ON A FIX.

update: no fix. It's using some bang whiz c# now to control build/silver cost and I can't ♥♥♥♥ with that. I'll probably hide or unlist this soon, whichever one doesn't remove it from your computers. We'll see if I pick the right one.

At least they don't require research anymore, so this mod's primary purpose is now irrelevant. Use dev mode from now on i don't care

Features:

Vanilla Expanded Props have no research† or build costs*.

Place this below Vanilla Furniture Expanded - Props and Decor in your load order.

Description:

I really like Vanilla Furniture Expanded - Props and Decor! Decorations are nice. I also like the added clutter when "visiting" faction bases generated by Vanilla Base Generation Expanded.

I don't like the added bloat of research projects and build costs. Why? They're non-functional decorations. They don't do anything. Okay, while it's true that some stuffable props add not insubstantial beauty bonuses when made from precious resources, the tables function as tables, and the vehicle props create large explosions when damaged, you could enable God Mode and build them for free, anyways. You could do that without this patch.

So I took a knife to the xmls and excised (patched) the things I don't like. No longer will props clog up Semi-Random Research with their obtrusive and time wasting research projects. No longer will props be an impediment stopping you from advancing in tech levels, because one does not simply waltz into the medieval era without knowing how to make a fake wooden mushroom.

They also cost nothing* to make, because they're non-functional decorations and I don't think cosmetic items should be resource or time sinks.

If you use a mod like Functional Vanilla Expanded Props that adds functionality to these props maybe don't use this? Or do. That's on you. It's your game and I'm not your mom. See God Mode comment above. I don't use that mod or any other mods that directly interact with VFE Props, so compatibility testing has not and will not be performed. That is, again, on you.

I don't know what I meant with the Preview image. I think I did a crime on VE's mod? Prop research and build costs were the crime? I don't know. I was a bit unwell last night when i slapped it together, and my brain ain't in tip top shape today either.

Thanks to SirMashedPotato and their tutorial discord for help figuring out some xml things!

† Research removal is now a toggle, enabled by default, accessible in Vanilla Expanded Framework's Toggleable Patches menu.

*The Stuffable prop brick piles, empty braziers, banners, and tables still require 1 Stuff. As far as I can tell they need at least 1 Stuff in the construction cost list or they won't be... Stuff. Banners would all come out as cloth, braziers and tables would come out as steel, and I didn't bother testing the brick piles.

If it helps make you feel better about the update - VPE has a setting for silver cost multiplier and return value, so you can set it to all be free.
I... didn't set mine to zero, it's just broken and none cost anything. But hey, it has the setting.

Good mod while it lasted o7

You have three thousand hours of rimworld clocked on your steam account so I have to believe you are able to read. So, why don't you?

Will you update it to 1.5? :)

While this mod is no longer working for VPE, I will say that when it was working this mod worked wonderfully, and that it was a must-have mod for decorating any base.

"2.0.0 (12/15/2023): Massive update changing how props are placed. Research projects have been removed. Props have been removed from the Architect menu. Instead, a new Props Pallette menu can be opened via the Build Props button in the Furniture tab. Props are placed instantly and cost silver instead of other resources. Many new props have been added, including effect spawners."

Oh, yeah, no, obviously it won't be compatible. These are huge changes to the very core of the mod. I could probably just zero the silver cost. I haven't looked into the xml yet.

@Jackledead I don't know, I don't play rimworld anymore. Try it and find out for yourself. It took 10 hours for me to see your post and you could have tested compatibility hundreds of times during that period.

If it is broken I'll get around to it some time, if only for mister streamer's sake.

Hey, props did a big update yesterday. Does this still work?

@Large Moron oh that's really nice. I at least do appreciate you doing that. And I will take a look at that wiki. Other then the class I have been trying to find out away to fuse 2 mods machnics into one. that might help me out in learning.

@Forgan_Meeman @Sera

There we go. Research removal is now a toggle, enabled by default. You will have to go to mod options > Vanilla Expanded Framework, select the Toggleable Patches tab, and change TRUE to FALSE if you want research back.

I also added a bunch of comments into the propbutchery.xml file in case anyone's interested in how the patch works. I promise it's very easy and you don't need to know anything about coding. I haven't programmed anything since my 9th? grade graphing calculator 20+ years ago. You too can start making your own patches today . Change what you don't like about the game and other mods.

https://rimworldwiki.com/wiki/Modding_Tutorials/PatchOperations This wiki page is a good beginner's resource. Find patches you use and open them up while you read the wiki so you can see more practical and varied examples of patches and how they interact with the mods you play.
