Description
🏆 WORKSHOP MAP OF THE YEAR 2022 🏆
Thanks for all the downloads, all the pictures, and all the cities you've built on this map. It's truly been a magical experience for me seeing your creativity. Don't stop building because I won't stop making maps like this one anytime soon.

ABOUT THE MAP

I love Costa Azzurra and so will probably you. It features beautiful beaches, mountains, rivers, hills, forests, farmlands, interchanges, bridges, viaducts, winding coastal roads, roundabouts, rail lines, castles, ports, etc. It's designed to be super playable and to not require more than 9 tiles to build a realistic city on it (pictures show my suggestions for unlocking). Hills and headlands together with the large amount of water keep the immersion of a realistic endless coastline and create good looking horizons from nearly any spot on the map.

BACKGROUND

This map is based on a terrain heightmap of Savona, Italy, along the Ligurian coast, some 40 kilometers west of Genoa. I used a heightmap from https://heightmap.skydark.pl. The name Costa Azzurra is supposed to mean "Blue Coast" in Italian and Is a reference to the Côte d'Azur (a.k.a. the French Riviera), just across the border to France. The making of this map has been documented in this video playlist.

DLCS & MODS

Only requirement to play is the Mass Transit DLC. This is due to the 2-lane highway networks and monorail tracks used for the custom bridges. I have also setup Intersection Marking Tool and TM:PE for junctions and interchanges map wide so if you use these mods that should be in your game already. The mods are not required but I would recommend them. Same goes for Fine Road Anarchy mod which will make it easier for you to edit some of the original highways.

THEMES & VISUALS

For the screenshots I have mostly used the Laviante LUT and the Vanilla Temperate map theme. A selection of other themes are showcased above. I have been made aware that the Oceania Map Theme also works really well with this map. A screenshot of my Relight settings is also provided, although, keep in mind that I use other mods that also affect visuals such as Daylight Classic, Cubemap Replacer, and Clouds & Fog Toggler, so the map may look different in your game even if Relight, theme and LUT is setup the same way.

DISCLAIMERS

I have used alot of trees on this map. About 246 761, give or take, which is rather close the the vanilla tree limit. This could affect performance if your computer isn't up for it. The rivers on the map may act a little wonky because of how small and shallow I made them. I have put in multiple water sources along the path of the rivers to mitigate this but in turn, that may cause issues if you try to dam the rivers in some locations. I have tested dams upstream in the mountains and it does work fine, however, power production will be relatively low so its not gonna be a very efficient source of electricity. There is no underwater/seafloor detailing on this map. I did not deem it neccecary or worth the effort this time around.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

Thanks to everyone who supported me or helped inspire me to make this map. In no particular order, I'd like to thank mayorwont who got me looking at the Ligurian coastline a lot more, erKrieger who helped me with artwork designs and ideas, ACanadianMoose_ who helped hype up people about the map and finding good themes for it, E6GSY for finding the last rough details so that I could attend to them. A final specialest thank you is resreved for WolfGirlGaming64. Watching and listening to your first impressions of the map made all the effort worth it.

SUPPORT

If you like this creation please consider rating it and checking out my other stuff. If you want to go one step further you can also tip me for a coffee or subscribe to my patreon page. Your contributions, however small, really helps motivating me to put more stuff like this on the workshop!

CHANGELOG

2022-08-17
  • Smoothed out some jagged terrain along the highways.
  • Catenaries near the port should no longer be clipping the tracks as much.
  • Added in some missing TM:PE lane connections.
  • A few more minor tweaks.

Its either an unrelated mod issue or that you dont have the mass transit dlc required for some roads on this map.

I'm getting this error every 5 seconds or so and don't know how to fix it... A little help?

I love this map! Perfect for an Italian small city!! Everything is fine tuned!

Sounds mod related. Plenty of combinations produce these kinds of issues unfortunately. If its only near the southern edge of the map thats a vanilla issue and nothing i could do anything about if i wanted to. Using 81 tiles to unlock all tiles or common ground mod may alleviate the issue with objects flickering towards the southern edge tiles.

Trees flickering/flashing. Anyone else have this problem? And what to do about it. Also trees disappearing when zooming out. I've never had these problems with any other maps.

This map is fantastic, one of the most beautiful I've downloaded. I even feel sorry for creating a city in it. Using a first-person mod and following the paths on the roads is incredible.

Then disable your mods and assets to find the because then. The map is not "broken" or else youd have 60k others saying the same. This is a you problem, not a map problem.
