Ironclad - SNS Langley

Description
The SNS Langley is a 7 gun casemate ironclad, designed for the Fishing Village Republic (FVR) during its war against the Holt Monarchy. She is named after a municipality near Canada's west coast.

The ship is a crude and heavy warship. One of the first of its kind.
She was constructed from the salvaged remains of a barquentine, then sheathed with iron plating. The armor extends from the casemate to the sides of her lower hull, and like wooden ships-of-the-line preceding her, the Langley uses a broad-side battery layout. Propulsion is provided by a small 3 piston steam engine.

The Langley is best for fighting in rivers and shallow-waters, where her low draft gives her better mobility than larger ships-of-the-line. Her little free-board leaves her vulnerable to large waves, however.

Features
  • Optimised design - Like most of my warships, the Langley has very low physics count. Enjoy the sheer optimisation yourself with F2!
  • Heavy Artillery Battery - She packs a withering broadside. A casemate full of 203mm carronades which are placed closely to shell feeders from the forward and rear magazines.
  • Motorised Life-Raft - Fear no enemy fire or kraken, for you can sleep at night knowing there's a 5-seater life-raft on her stern. ... which is a very fine vessel on its own, even the Holt Monarchy uses it!
  • Heavy armour - A very efficient, mysterious design which stops the majority of flooding from damage. It's bulky but compensates for more than its own weight in protection and extra buoyancy. Try for yourself!

Startup Procedure
  • Start the boiler. Head down to boiler room in the lower deck, and turn on the boiler's key.
  • Set boiler. Set the boiler temperature to above 100 (ideally 140) to quickly generate steam.
  • Control the Helm. Head back to the PILOT-HOUSE, located on the roof of the ship. Enter from inside the casemate.

TO TURN OFF THE BOILER: set boiler temperature back to ZERO. The firebox will stop generating heat.

Notes
  • The aimed range of the gun is only measured between the gun barrel and the DECK, not to the horizon. In rough seas it only works well as a relative measurement to adjust your aim.
  • Flood pumps and repair tools can be controlled from the maintenance room, found in the second deck.
  • To start the life-raft, simply flick on the motor from the instrument-panel near its stern.

The other warship in the image-gallery is the SS Esquimalt, a heavier steam-frigate, designed a month earlier.

Refit is almost complete:
Revamped armor scheme
Improved lifeboat release
Revamped interior
-added decorative storage room
-added crew bunkers and officer quarters with a cozy stove
-improved boiler regulator
-added cargo hatch

The ship will be a joy to use. Might release in 2-3 days.

Happy new years by the way!
