Description
Adds Icebreaker and Nuclear Icebreaker units to the game.
Check out my new Civilization - Zaporizhian Sich


Main changes
Makes ice passable (movement cost = 200).
Submarines ignore ice movement costs.
Icebreaker and Nuclear Icebreaker, as well as units combined with them, also ignore the cost of moving.
Adds 2 unique units to Canada (Louis S. St-Laurent and Polar).


Units
Icebreaker
Industrial Era support unit. Ignores the cost of moving on ice. All units combined with Icebreaker move at the same speed. Tech: Industrialisation. Moves and Sight Range = 2

Nuclear Icebreaker
Atomic Era support unit. Ignores the cost of moving on ice. All units combined with Nuclear Icebreaker move at the same speed. Tech: Nuclear Fission. Moves and Sight Range = 4

Louis S. St-Laurent
Canadian unique unit that replaces the Icebreaker. Has 1 more movement and sight range. Tech: Industrialisation

Polar
Canadian unique unit that replaces the Nuclear Icebreaker. Has 1 more movement and sight range. Tech: Nuclear Fission

Reading ignorant comments claiming russia wasn't always the same thing it was in last 20 years, sure let's ignore literally Peter I issuing a decree literally banning the printing books in Ukrainian in 1720...

BTW ingame "russia" ALREADY has uniques stolen from Ukraine: both Cossacks AND Lavras are Ukrainian heritage. Firaxis done goofed, it's like giving USA Scottish Highlanders. The only reason anyone should have unique units for russia in their game is so you can see little green men get irradiated when you nuke moscow.

How come people playing historical games not understand what colonization is? Also, insisting Peter having unique nuclear icebreakers is like asking for Sumer to have SCUD missiles because Saddam Hussein did.

@TimberJackEB it was intended, units in formation move at the speed of Icebreaker

After playing with it for a bit, I am sorry to report that as for my gameplay experience, The units in formation don't inherit the fastest unit's mobility. This could be intended, and I misunderstood the description.

What I know to be a problem though is that the icebreaker doesn't ignore the movement cost of passing through ice. This could be an incompatibility. I'll run a test to root out the problem.

@NullTheory i cant find how to do it, but you can check Dangerous Ice mod, that makes so units without icebreakers take damage each turn they on ice (mod is not mine)

is there a way to require ice breakers for ship movement through ice? In reality, ships would not be able to pass through the ice without the aid of an ice breaker.

While I love this mod, and don't realy care for special units, numbers are numbers, and russia has held the vast majoraty of the planet's ice breakers, without competition, for the last 200 years, for obvious reasons simply due to geography. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_icebreakers#Russia

While I understand your reason for not putting them in, and you as a mod dev can do anything, omiting a hundreds of years of civilian maritime history, (and it being the only country with nuclear ice breakers) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuclear-powered_icebreaker seems like a tad bit of an oversight. (and considering near all of the countrie's ice breakers were made in soviet times, and the in game russia is represented by peter, from the 1700's, adding russian ice breakers has very little correlation to anything 1990- onwards

I was hoping for someone to think about and create such mod !

I'm so sorry it had to be political... To be fair, after Russia invaded Ukraine, I didn't play as Peter for a while. I can understand your perspective, but I feel like Russia is way more than what it is for the last 20ish years...
I'm from France myself, and I can't say I agree with its darkest side, or the way the actual government treats its citizens.

I never play as the USA tho (after all game is called "civilization")
