Reducing Impacts of Tech Rushing
Hey everyone! I'm glad to be finally releasing Technology Rubberbanding. This mod aims to reduce the oppressive impact of tech rushing by adding in rubberbanding.

What is rubberbanding?
Rubberbanding is simply adding bonuses to people behind in technology and negatives to people ahead. The mod achieves its goal by adding a Technology cost modifier to each country. The modifiers are all based on the "galaxy average" and you can see the exact numbers below.

Works with all mods!
You can use this mod with any other mod, and as a plus this mod shouldn't (hopefully) break in any future update

Lots of options for you!
I understand that everyone wants to play differently, so upon the start of the game you (or the host in MP) will be given the following options:
  • Full Tech Rubberbanding
  • Only tech boosts for lagging nations
  • Only tech negatives for ahead nations

In addition to that you can also choose how large those bonuses and negatives are, and any limits you want to set.

Wait there is more! You can also choose when the modifiers will start.
  • 40 years in
  • 20 years in
  • 10 years in
  • Upon the formation of the galactic community (with 40 year fallback)
  • Now

Too many options?
Don't worry the mod starts with reasonable presets and all you need to do is click confirm.

Modifier table
This table shows the modifiers for the x1 modifiers. For any other multiplier just multiply the modifier in the table below by it.

Although I like the current state of the mod, there are many more features I might eventually add, Like:
  • Research bonuses from each Individual empire in addition to (or replacing) the current galaxy wide passive bonus
  • Friendly empires giving more tech bonus, Hostile empires need infiltration instead
  • Research bonuses from Intel levels/Espionage levels
  • Interaction (and finding balance) with Enigmatic engineering
  • Ability to see multipliers' effects in UI

@Olympia Thanks for the feedback! I have now added a trigger so the TR_host / starting event will only be assigned / happen to a player. Should now make everything work even if the player is not tag 0.

Thanks for this much needed and masterfully crafted mod! I've been looking for something like this since the start of Stellaris.

I was running into what's probably a niche issue where I (in single player, never play MP) did not consistently get the "TR_host" country flag because it was going to player 0. It seemed to be the case that any time I used a special system initializer, like Sol, I was being made player 1 rather than 0, thus not getting the flag nor getting the ability to get the menu at game start or the edict to change settings, as it seems to go to player 0 only. It's possible this is a weird mod interaction, as I didn't test it in isolation from the rest of my mod list.

I added: every_country = { limit = { is_ai = no } to the immediate section under techrubber.1 to consistently get the flag, which solved the problem. Not sure what this would mean in MP, but just thought I'd share in case anyone else runs into this while playing.

@Odd_server, did you get the edict to work? When you use the edict it should launch a window that lets you edit the settings.

I want to rejiggle the settings but as soon as I click the edict it expires instantly. What do? : /

Absolute preliminary testing suggests that the mod works just fine. Setup event works fine, no event spam, now just to see if the rubber-banding... bands... rubber. Wish me luck! ^-^
