Description
Adds a new type of cargo transport - Barges. They are like cargo ships but use ferry paths & canals (more on that - see below)



For barges, you need a separate sets of building & vehicle assets:
- Class name: Ferry Cargo Vehicle (vehicles), Ferry Cargo Facility (harbors)
- Service: Public Transport
- SubService: Public Transport - Ship
- Level: 5
- Vehicle type: Ferry

You can find the first bunch of barges here
And a simple barge harbor can be found there. Another harbor asset that you see on the screenshots is the Westhafen Lagerhalle by AliTarGz.

Unlike ships, ferries can navigate canals, even the tiniest ones!. I also highly recommend using the one way ferry paths from Extra Ferry Components from the same author (Cpt.Roberto) so that the barges approach & leave the harbors in a more realistic way.

I hope there will be new low profile assets in the workshop, I would love to see Amsterdam-style barges[www.alamy.com]!
And if you feel like making a barge harbor, Königsberg's half-timbered warehouses[media.gettyimages.com] would be something great to have in Cities: Skylines.

You can find barges in the Ship tab. Here's the summary of barge functionality:



How to use
- Plop 2 or more barge harbors
- Connect them with ferry paths or canals
- Barges will spawn automatically!
- (when Industries DLC is owned & the the option is enabled): select a kind of resource stored

This mod is NOT compatible with:
- TM:PE LABS (it's abandoned and you have to switch to STABLE anyway!)
- maybe some other mods! (I didn't have enough time to check)

This mod is COMPATIBLE with:
- TM:PE STABLE
- More Vehicles
- Improved Public Transport 2
- Service Vehicle Selector 2
- Movable Bridges
- EDS
- a lot of other mods! (I didn't have enough time to check)

Investigating compatibility:
- More Effective Transfer Mod (METM) (according to some reports causes barges not to spawn?)

I just plop normal cargo hubs and use shipping paths to bring the ships to the desired area. There cargo hubs trade with each other, not as effective as barges but something is better than nothing.

I would literally pay real dollars if someone would fix this mod. One of my favorite cities was sort of built around it (i know, I know...) and I can't really open it or the cargo traffic carnage will slowly eat my city. Do I try to find someone on Reddit?

For those of you who are still in C:S 1 and haven't given up the hope:

I found a workaround for cities that rely on barges (i.e. island maps). I subscribed to these mods:

(Vehicle Selector) https://steamproxy.net/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2882769913
(River Cargo Harbor) https://steamproxy.net/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=878692125

The second one isn't actually needed but looks like and fits into the space of the barge harbors. It is actually a regular but smaller harbor. Important: You have to replace the ferry lines with regular ship paths then plop this or another harbor so that it connects to ONLY THIS SHIP PATH (otherwise it might spawn import or export vessels). Using vehicle selector, you can now force this harbor to be restricted to barges.

While the regular harbor (and the river cargo harbor respectively) do not feature a built in warehouse, the connection does work and I have once again barges travelling between my islands.

WORKS, but only for POSTAL. After having this installed and built out in my game for months, I was excited to see my first barge today! It seems only postal trucks utilized the barge link. I guess the rest of the cargo used the available rail link. There is no road connections.
When I severed the rail connection to test, I still got only postal trucks are using barges
Excited to see this mod work regardless :)

Barges mod has no harmful issues, just it is not functioning after the last game patch, which has reorganized the cargo of CS1. I did not remove Barges from the Treasure & Hunt compatible modlist.

I have implemented a couple of Cargo stations for barges, so I would not remove the mod.

It's broken, according to skyve and LSM. Any chance it still will be fixed?
