Description
"Don't just stand there, kill something!"

The Exxon Valdez, referred to as 'The Dez' and serving as the Smoker home-base in the classic 90s post-apocalypse movie 'Water World'. A rusting, barnacle encrusted hulk in the film, the real-life Exxon Valdez achieved infamy early in its service life when, due to a number of errors it ran aground in 1989, leaking millions of gallons of crude oil into the sea, much of which washed up onto the shore line around Prince William Sound, Alaska.
To this day it remains one of the America's and indeed the worlds worst oil spills. The Exxon Valdez itself was repaired and put back into service, being sold and remained several times
before eventually being sold for scrap and broken up in 2012.

Summary:

I believe this will be a fitting end to my series of WaterWorld replicas- The 'Dez makes for an imposing sight as it looms over the horizon, menacing Atolls with its sheer size and jagged appearance. In reality it's basically just a floating brick waiting for some brave soul to drop a lit flare down a convenient hatch into the 'black stuff' below- this replica is as faithful as I could manage within the confines of Space Engineers & taking into account the real lack of reference material such as plans and still photos. The material that is available is limited to screen shots & doesn't help all that much as the interior & exterior of the vessel bears little resemblance to the real thing- the deck is stripped of it's pipe work, the oil tanks replaced with deck plates inside to create more open spaces, workshops and other production facilities, so I just used my imagination and tried to create something that looked right on the outside, and made sense on the inside.

Important note:

As noted, the 'Dez itself is vanilla and requires no mods to function- perfect if you are already running a modded world with the water mod installed. If you aren't however and you wish to have a floating tanker, then you will need to subscribe to the Water mod & Text hud API to fully appreciate this creation- I also highly recommend subscribing to the Water planet for a better experience ( no underwater trees & grass.... ). Everything you need is listed on the right under 'required items' if you aren't already subscribed.

As always, if you enjoyed this creation please feel free to Like, Share, Follow, Favourite etc etc, helps to keep me motivated and who knows, I may well build more of the items seen in the movie... ;)

@spring bonnie - it's a replica, which in the film it's from is indeed used as a mobile base of sorts. It's only 300m long which is tiny compared to my usual builds. Think big, expand your horizons... ;)

i go into the workshop thinking "alright, let's see what S.E. has been up to lately" and see this... is this meant to be a mobile base? because if so i think it's a little excessively big for even that judging by pictures

@Lord Raso
Well, the movie came out in 1995, and the real Dez wasn't scrapped until 17 years after the film, so I imagine the idea was that somehow the real ship survived into 2500. Which is kinda nuts, never mind that it still had oil onboard, but it's definitely an out-there film. I love movie recreations :)

It shows the name just as it slips beneath the waves

I had no idea the ship from Water World was, in fact, named after that tanker!
