Map Modes Enhanced

Description
The goal of this mod is to increase the visual clarity of many map modes, primarily the terrain-political hybrid mode.

The pure political map mode left basically the same as vanilla, while the terrain-political map does a much better job of showing the terrain.

It also fixes a lot of subtle inconsistencies regarding labels and icons on most map modes.

Lastly, I added the road lines from atlas map onto some other map modes, such as the supply map, simple terrain map, and trade routes map.

Basically, this mod makes the map look nicer while also conveying information very clearly.

Important:
If you are also using the Better UI mod (Which I highly recommend), make sure Map Modes Enhanced is below Better UI in your load order.

And for the best results, I recommend you also use my other mod: Clear Sky (The gifs above are slightly out-of-date, but they are close enough and they convey the right idea.... The still images are up-to-date.)

Clear Sky

Additionally, here's some other minor changes that this mod makes:
  • Removed the "edge" border effect from the near zoom levels because it overlapped lots of useful information. Things like stripes (claims, occupations, zone of control) and territory color (political, peace deal, diplomatic, etc.) are now clearly distinguishable.
  • Unrest & loyalty mode: Removed the province loyalty pop-up. This info-window was redundant (there are better ways to view province loyalty), and it obscured the map at near zoom levels.
  • Tweaked lots of subtle variables to make the map behave consistently across all modes and zoom levels.
  • Labels (territory, province, country, etc.) are more appropriately displayed in order to match the given map mode. (e.g. Levies map now shows region labels instead of country)
  • Road lines added to a few relevant map modes.
  • Enabled the "Climate" map mode. I thought it was neat and potentially handy, albeit niche and lacking an icon and name.

Does not change the checksum

Does not affect performance

What specifically "conflicts" that I noticed (because I was trying to use it) was the climate map mode gets turned into his pure terrain map mode. What you say makes sense now that I'm not staring at this at 1am lol. Both files get loaded, the changes made by your mod (enabling the climate map) are loaded and then the changes made by his mod (turning that map mode into his pure terrain map) are loaded. They don't technically conflict and since they're handling different information, can be loaded in whatever order without the results I was looking for lol. Thanks for humoring my comment, your mod is working as described, flawlessly so far as I can tell.

I'm not sure how many edits the other mod makes in the map_modes.txt file, but if it is just a small amount then it would be easy to merge the two.

Sounds like the game is trying to load both files at once because they are different names, which would cause the issue. If the files were the same name I would think whichever is loaded last should take priority and override the other.

So, for whatever reason, I'm having a similar problem to drakmoonthemad13, but changing load order didn't work. Didn't matter what the load order, I couldn't get this mod to work with Enhanced Graphics and Lighting. I looked through and fixed it for myself by disabling the localization folder for EGL and the gfx/map/map_modes folder by appending them with "-disabled" in the folder name.
I will note that the map mode file for this mod is named differently from what is in EGL, so maybe there's something that's being treated as an over ride because of the name difference (the file name for this mod is map_modes.txt and the corresponding file in the same folder in EGL is named pure_terrain.txt).

MME with clear sky would look great with a mod that changes the map font to a gold color.

Does this include a building map mode for the provinces?

I had to load it after De Atlas Orbis Terrarum , navigable rivers and the patch for those mods to work together even tho the patch mod says to load those 3 last

Just try moving this mod to the bottom of the load order so that it is loaded last. There must be another mod in your list editing the same file.
