Description
Update December 2022:
Fixing a logging bug.

Updated August 27th @ 8:35

This mod adds Thermal Signatures to the game. Vessels with large power outputs will be marked on screen, the more heat they output, the farther away they can be detected. Static Grids (such as stations) do not generate a thermal output. This is an alternative to radar-based mods, and allows for stealth-ships that use less heat intensive power generation methods to become a viable tactic.

There is no penalty to producing excess heat, except that players will be able to see you from farther away (though not identify specific vessels, they simply show up as "Thermal Signatures").
Current Output:

Small ships broadcast at a rate of 15KM/30MW (2 large basic reactor), and Large ships broadcast at a rate of 25KM/300MW (1 large basic reactor). Hydrogen engines contribute to the thermal load, based upon their thrust output, and should work with most Thermal Engine Mods. Static grids produce no heat at all.

Different Thermal sources affect the broadcast range at different ratio:

Power from **Reactors have a 1:1 ratio** (1MW of output is 1MW for broadcast purpose)

Power from **Hydro Engines have a 2:1 ratio** (2MW of output is 1MW for broadcast purpose)

Power from **Batteries have a 4:1 ratio** (40MW of output is 10 MW for broadcast purpose)

Power from **Solar/Wind wont affect broadcast range** (always 0MW for broadcast purpose)

A Large Ship Hydrogen Thruster generates roughly 1.5 kilometers at full burn.

The denser the atmosphere, the better the heat dissipation!

You can also customize these values. See update log for information.

Planned Features:
Water Mod support

Line of Sight check (no Thermal sensing if a target is on the other side of a small moon)

How do I limit the amount of thermal signatures on my screen? This is currently the worst part of the mod.

wish this would get some love. it was always the best radar, stealth, heat, what ever you want to call it type of mod.

I recently just found this mod while trying to come up with a modpack for a small server I'm working on, I tried it in single player it was fine and works great! When I open my server up so friends can join they end up crashing right a few seconds after joining. I dont know if is a conflict with another mod or something. I remove the mod people can join with no issue. Any Idea on how to fix this or known mods that it may not work with? Aside from the issues im having in multiplayer it seems to work great and would love to use it on my server!

I'd love to see a setting where speed can be taken into account as well.

is this mod still being worked on?

Do you have a github for tihs? Would you consider taking pull requests?

My waypoints don't seem to disappear.

Would be nice if you could set it to not constantly pop up thermal signatures for your own ships, since that tends to make it harder to see those from other ships. That said, this is probably more useful in multiplayer then single player where most NPC ships seem to have a broadcasting antenna.

Are you planning to incorporate the new vent blocks by chance? So that they can either visually display the heat being vented? Or possibly use them to help dissipate heat (lower signal range/duration)

@Bio, @spoons, I'll create a repo and open it up for submissions.
Its a good framework that can certainly use some updates
