Connector Docking Camera Version 2

Description
I've added a control panel to the camera block to help with orientating the placement (please see the images). I've also added build stages and a few more components. The control panel is only meant to give a point of reference for placement and a point for grinding because removing the old camera system was a pain. I also added the dividing line back to the overlay (I found I missed it more then I thought). I hope these changes enhance your enjoyment of the mod. Send some feedback and let me know.

2.1 Update: Adjusted the collision box on the large hull camera as it prevented connection between two ships.

2.2 Update: Added to the large connector versions a bottom version and renamed. I didn't add the no overlay.

2.3 Update: There was an error in the grouping which made some cameras unavailable. Should be fixed.

2.4 Update: I think I have fixed the grouping problems. You should only see two icons in the Large Blocks, Small Blocks and Conveyor groups. Using the wheel you can scroll between the top and bottom version. You can press the assigned G menu number to switch to the small version (only the top version has this). I may add a small version for the bottom soon.

Note the addition of the collision box will prevent the connection between two hull camera connectors. Not sure why someone is going hull to hull like that anyway :) your just asking for damage.

Version 1 Notes:

This is an update to LyleCorp Optics https://steamproxy.net/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=837700572
According to the comments lylesonders has moved on and left this mod for others to update.
Well I've taken it on and I hope you enjoy it.

I've made a new clean image and increased the resolution. I did remove the wide angle view as the offsets were not correct and so the view didn't look right. If this is something people think is really cool maybe I'll see if I can figure it out and add it back in.

As for placing the camera, you really need Digi's BuildInfo tool https://steamproxy.net/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=514062285. Until I figure out how to add helper graphics to the model at placement time, this is the best way, and it is a great tool anyway. I've added some images to help illustrate how to place the cameras using BuildInfo. As you can see with out this tool placement is almost impossible. Thanks Digi.

This is my first MOD let me know what I can do to improve the work.

Thanks

Thanks for making this. This mod is a 'must-have' for every ship I build. I've encountered a small issue when using this in conjunction with Qarannia's Star Trek Mod Pack (no fault of yours or your mod). The star trek connector has slightly different geometry. As a result, part of the connector is visible through the camera. I played with the sbc file and found if I move the camera 0.4 meters forward the view is clear. But, of course, then the control panel on the hull mount version is raised 0.4 m above the hull. I'm no modeler, but I'm guessing the distance between the control panel and the camera would have to be adjusted in blender. Any thoughts?

The small grid versions are missing the "upside" down versions.
And if not too much of a hassle, I'd like to ask for an option to make the overlay semi transparent.

Posted the pictures last night to modding-programming.

Sure thing. I'll grab some tonight. Thank you for considering this.

@Felkami, I'll take a look at that. But I'm not visualising your setup. I'm on the discord channel under modding-programming. You could send me a screenshot. Mark or #2236

Hmm. With the hull docking camera, I think its collision mesh might be too large on large grid. With mag plates on the back (turned off) and only the docking camera in front, the connectors don't get close enough for connection. If I grind off the docking camera, they can now get close enough to connect.

So the lights on the connector are left and right, not top and bottom.

@Novar I'm sorry, I didn't describe the question well. If the connector is rotated so the mounting points are on the sides, then the view through the camera view is on its side. So its not on the sides of the connector, but rather the sides of the view.

Does that make sense?
Novar  [author] 17 Mar, 2022 @ 8:31am
@Felkami, I currently don't and the reason is there are no mount points on the sides. But that doesn't mean that the hull mounted version couldn't be on the side. I've just never configured it that way.

Any plans to add mounting options for the sides in addition to top/bottom?
