Description
Purpose
The Hercules is designed to operate as a lightly armed mobile mining facility on planetary and Lunar sufaces, set up as both a PAM Controller to manage its two mining ships and a SAM Station for two autopiloted cargo shuttles and a personal shuttle. It has 8 wheels (5x5) and some hydrogen thrusters (forward and braking only, for more control up and down steep slopes)

Recommended Miners:
  • All MK1 Tunnel Miners
  • All MK2 Tunnel Miners
Ships recommended for use with the Hercules can be found in the ISL Small Grid Miners collection and the Callisto Cargo drones collection.

To avoid collisions between the hangar and miners when using the PAM script's path recording, first park your mining ship orientated as shown in the screenshot, then start path recording, undock and, lifting up only enough to avoid thruster damage, move out of the hangar sideways until fully clear, then turn towards your job site and fly normally.

Staying low is important, as the PAM script flies to a waypoint a certain height above the connector (If docking vertically) before docking, and if the path recorded is too high, PAM will save that waypoint inside the hangar roof.

Full cargo (as indicated on the LCD in the cabin) is:
• All docks Occupied
• Large cargo container full of Ore
• Small Cargo container full of Components
• O2/H2 Generators full of Ice
• Ammunition in the 8 turrets

The RT 1280's miner hangar is designed for carrying Tunnel Miners, for the version that fits Quarry miners, try the Hercules-RQ 1280.

Here is the ion version.

Here is the atmospheric version.

Whip's Compass Bearing script is installed on a cabin LCD.

There is a basic refinery and assembler on board, for any emergency repairs only.

IMPORTANT: this ship is designed for carrying Ore only in its main cargo container (although the small container can carry components). Components and ingots are much heavier per volume than ore. It is not recommended to go beyond this weight limit (but if you do, let me know how getting up that hill goes).

Features
2 Miner Docks - with Sorter for unloading
2 Cargo Drone/Shuttle Docks - with Sorter for loading
1 Light Dock for a personal shuttle - conveyored to cargo system
Stone Ejection system (1 Connector and 1 Sorter)
Combined interior cabin and living space (beds for 2)

Scripts & Weapons:
PAM script (Controller)
SAMv2 script (Station)
Whip's Compass Bearing script
MMaster's Automatic LCD's

1 Gatling Turret - Top
7 Interior Turrets - 1 hangar, 3 each port and starboard
Emergency production - 1 assembler & 1 basic refinery

Power:
15 Batteries
2 Hydrogen engines
3 Hydrogen generators
1 Large Hydrogen tank
1 Small Hydrogen tank

Movement & Control:
1 Remote Control
1 Flight seat
4 Gyroscopes - anti flip system & steering assist
8 Wheels (5x5)
9 Small Hydrogen Thrusters
1 Small Reactor

Cargo Space
1 Large Cargo Container
1 Small cargo container

Miscellaneous:
1 Gravity Generator - range extends only enough to cover the ship
4 Artificial Mass blocks - together with the gravity generator, makes driving in lunar gravity easier.
9 Connectors - 1 underside, 1 port, 1 starboard (for docking to station)
2 Cargo drone docks, 1 personal shuttle dock, 2 miner docks, 1 stone ejector.
1 Oxygen tank
1 Ore Detector
Multiple LCD readouts with information about the state of the ship.
1 Landing Gear (rear, underside) - For locking in place during mining operations, place one or two blocks (no need to weld them) from the ground up to the Landing gear.

Landing pads have approach lighting systems (aesthetic only)

All Programmable blocks are turned off in this blueprint, to get them going again, just turn them back on. Each ship also has text panels on the sides to display a registration number.

Hi Storpapa, thanks I saw bits of yesterday's stream as well, so I'm glad she's been working well for you :)
Storpappa 3 Jun, 2021 @ 4:39pm
Thanks Spite for your great work!
We built our 1st Hercules, Cool Runnings, in orbit over Triton and flew it to the surface as a lander and explorer vessel
After many mods including 2 trailers, more construction, more weapons, and a massive drilling rig, we had to let her go.

We couldn't leave Triton without her replacement: Cool Runnings II

In the videos we go over the build, and take it on a Search & Rescue mission across Triton spanning the entire planet.

Yup, if I remember right, I made the Hercules series before the Mk3 and Mk4 miners.

At some point I'll get around to doing new set of miner carriers

love the rover only down side i see is the mk3 tunnel miners are so close to fitting in there nice just have to extend it by like 2 bloks

So I just checked, and the Harpy can't lift it, but he pegasus definitely can!

Probably still better to the build the flying version though
EmberStar 14 Dec, 2020 @ 9:36pm
Out of curiosity, is your "Harpy" series of tugs capable of lifting this series of mega-rovers? I know you're carting around the big green freighter in the screenshots, but I think this rover looks bigger. And especially Earthlike has a nasty habit of having pretty big chunks of the landscape blocked with mountains just steep and jagged enough to rip the guts out of anything with wheels.

Then again, maybe it's just cheaper to build one of the variants that can actually fly. o.O

Thanks! I really should update this and add some parachute hatches though
Zeal 18 Jun, 2020 @ 2:45pm
Rock solid design. I dropped this thing (empty) from orbit and I only lost the two back wheels. No parachutes or anything!
AngryDragon 18 May, 2020 @ 1:37am
I almost went directly for the atmospheric version. I probably could have gotten away with that. I definitely have the materials lying around to make it happen and I might still go down that route. To be had, driving down the mountain is going to rough.
AngryDragon 18 May, 2020 @ 1:35am
I understand what you are saying there. It's likely that my own will have a rather short life as a rover. The goal right now is essentially to drive enough materials to a nearby lake to setup an outpost, get a fuelling station setup and then ship out in orbit. My current base is likely going to get abandoned. It's on a mountain. The only reason I built there is that's where I landed, and there's an iron cobalt nickle deposit quite literally 10 meters under. It just made sense to refine what I needed to startup there.
