Hive Soldiers Expanded

Description
Did you know that hammerhead shark eyes are mounted on the sides because it allows 360° of vision in the vertical plane, meaning the animals can see above and below them at all times?
Well then why do Hive Soldier Drones have NEGATIVE Perception??!?

Hive Soldiers are arguably the weakest race in the game, having 9 negative skills and only 2 positive skills. They also cannot wear helms making them vulnerable to Duststorms and Gas.

This mod aims to fix all of these problems, first with some stat tweaks and then with an added item available in Hive Villages. These changes apply to both Western and Southern Hive Soldiers.

Stat Tweaks:
0% Perception changed from -20% Perception
+20% Polearm changed from 0% Polearm
100% Duststorm Immunity changed from 0% Duststorm Immunity
1.4 Vision Range Multiplier changed from 1.0 Vision Range Multiplier

New Item:
Hive Soldier Gas Mask which can be equipped in the belt slot. Specifically designed for Hive Soldiers, it can only be worn by them. It provides 100% Weather Protection against Gas and it also has 5% head coverage, so you may get lucky and it can save your life! The resistance stats are identical to the Swamp Ninja Mask; using the edits from No Cut Efficiency - located at this link: (Note: You do NOT need No Cut Efficiency to use Hive Soldiers Expanded. Hive Soldiers Expanded is 100% standalone. I simply used the same stats from No Cut Efficiency)

The Hive Soldier Gas Mask and blueprint are sold in Hive Villages. In case you are roleplaying an exiled Hiver that cannot return to the villages, the blueprint is also rarely sold at The Great Library in Black Scratch.

If you just want the new Gas Mask item without the stat changes, see my standalone version below:

If you want a Gas Mask equippable by all races, see my standalone Gas Mask For All mod below:

Because of their hammerhead like features, it made no sense to me that they'd have lesser Perception and I even contemplated buffing it, but since Hive Princes already get a bonus to Perception, I wanted Hive Soldiers to feel more unique. After much consideration a Polearm bonus made sense because that is literally what every Hive Soldier spawns equipped with.

I decided that their unique head shape contributes to their ability to see in Duststorms (hence the 100% Immunity) and I also gave them a large vision range. This only effects NPCs and makes it much harder to run through Hiver territory unseen. This is especially noticeable when running through Southern Hiver territory as Soldier patrols will become aggressive from much further away.

This mod can be kept fairly high in load order as long as you don't have any other mods directly buffing Hive Soldiers. Even if you're using mods that heavily edit Western Hive Villages, you can always rely on buying the Gas Mask blueprint at The Great Library in Black Scratch, but since this mod adds the item to the vendor list, it should still show up in most cases.

This mod should be 100% compatible with Hives Expanded since the only edits to Hive Soldiers from Hives Expanded are the gear they spawn with. Hives Expanded is a great mod and I highly suggest giving it a try: https://steamproxy.net/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1688546539

P.S. There are many mods that buff Hive Soldiers, but I've found the other mods do not do this in a lore friendly way. Why would Hivers suddenly become immune to Gas? I believe it is more lore friendly that Hivers would have invented a custom gas mask rather than suddenly become immune to Gas.

If you like my mod, feel free to hit that 👍

Yeah, I bet it could be quite confusing managing a bunch of mods, no worries. It was just a shout to anyone looking to organize their mods so they actually work as intended. Thank you for your hard work!

My mod load order is super disorganized because I use a separate spreadsheet to organize them as far as content is concerned. However, my mod load order works (and it's 300+ mods too!) with no issues because you don't need your load order to be organized, it just needs to work xD

@admos Sorry about the strange naming convention! It may be a bit annoying for users, but as the creator, it really helps me keep all my mods in the same place since they all start with "2PN8" in front.

As for Atlas's guide, it's a really really great guide! But don't forget, there are always exceptions. If you find a mod doesn't quite fit with his guide, the general rule of thumb is to install one mod at a time and try it at the top, middle, and bottom of the load order and see where it works and go from there! You'd be surprised how many mods work no matter where they are in the load order :D

To add to my last post, I'm following this guide https://steamproxy.net/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1850250979 by Atlas, so keep it above Overhauls and around Weapons/Armor.

For anyone trying to organize their mod list properly, since this mod has a hard name to find, it's called "2PN8HiveSoldiers" on the list. Might be wise to change the title to include it, maybe.
Also, it's semi-considered as an overhaul mod since it changes quite a few things, so keep it near the bottom of your mod list.

Pretty much exactly what danshaku said. Since this theoretical Hiver eye-sight is based off of hammerhead sharks, we know that hammerhead sharks have no issues with depth perception, but we don't know if they have better depth perception (at least this was the case last time I researched this, but I'm not a marine biologist). Anyway, I appreciate all the input! Thanks for the comments <3

@Benjideaula I think the fact the eyes are on the side of their head messes with the depth of field, of their vision, which is important for aiming crossbows. Being able to see 360 increases awareness but probably hurts aim.

ah, just read that bit about how you considered buffing perception but wanted to keep it unique. Still, it would still make sense.
