The crown is an actual item from New Super Mario Bros, and no, it only affects the female characters, not the male ones. Even Nintendo joked about in the trailer saying "Sorry Luigi".

I am so confused rn. I have it, I'm using it's ability but I still see no difference. Is this some sorta inside joke?
