Halo - The United Nations Space Command

Description
!!!IMPORTANT NOTICE!!!!
The mod dependency is not set to require Brave New World but all of the mod's features save for some aesthetics will not function without the Brave New World expansion pack. The unique trait will be broken, no unique units will be available, almost all the Civilopedia/Dawn of Man text will be missing, and every .dds image aside from the diplomacy screen and the icons will not display. Most importantly, the Jet Fighter will be unavailable when playing as the UNSC without Brave New World. Proceed at your own risk, but if you truly want to play as the UNSC without getting Brave New World, the option is there.

Anyway, this mod adds in the United Nations Space Command from the Halo franchise, led by Lord Terrence Hood, as a playable Civilization. Their Civ playstyle is built around their flexibility and ability to quickly respond to any attack that may come their way, especially while in the Information Era. Their units are more powerful on defense within their territory, and more powerful against larger enemy aggressors, allowing this Civ to stand firm against determined enemy attacks, much like in the games. You'll probably need a determined and large army with plenty of firepower to take the UNSC down, especially if they're reaping both benefits.

Included in the Civilopedia entries is a list of the city names and spy names used and where they came from. They can be found under the Civilopedia entry for the UNSC itself.

====Unique Ability - Winter Contingency====
The United Nations Space Command enjoys a 15% Combat Strength bonus when fighting in friendly territory. If the UNSC also finds themselves battling a larger enemy, they reap another 15% Combat Strength bonus. If both apply to a war, they will stack to a whopping 30% Combat Strength increase to all units in the defense of their territory.

====Unique Unit 1 - Orbital Drop Shock Trooper====
Slightly weaker than the XCOM Squad it replaces, but carries the custom "Orbital Drop" promotion, allowing it to deploy anywhere on the map at a given time, as long as it starts the turn within friendly territory. For context, internally the paradrop range is set to 150, from the previous 40.

====Unique Unit 2 - Longsword====
The Longsword is stronger than the Jet Fighter it replaces, and it has a doubled attack range. Increased to 20 from 10, the wider air coverage allows the Longsword to provide air support across a larger area around its home city.

====Credits====
Usernamehere, for making the mod.
Bungie, for making an amazing franchise.
All the respective owners and creators of the music and images used.

Music used:

Halo: Combat Evolved OST - The Gun Pointed at the Head of the Universe (Dawn of Man audio)
Halo 2 OST - Delta Halo Suite (Peace Theme)
Halo: Reach OST - Tip of the Spear (War Theme)

====Known bugs====
None at the moment. I had a fluke of a bug where the ODST appeared as the Spearman even though it was coded right, but this seems to have been a fluke. If this happens to anyone else, let me know.

====Available addons====

Halo Unique Units - Warthog
Halo Unique Units - Scorpion

If you have a software to edit .dds files outright you can add your own icons to the icon sheet. You could either overlay your images over the default ones, or add new ones in new slots and change the code of the mod accordingly.

yeah I figured out how to change the png files to .dds- however, can I add the images into the icon packs somehow?

You could always pick up a photo editing software that has the capacity to convert .png files to .dds files - like Paint.net which is the one I use for all my mods. Changing a file extension manually through renaming doesn't usually have the desired effect.

If you're thinking of an official customization option inside the game or the mod, no I don't think so. But there's nothing wrong with changing the mod files directly.

Is there a way to replace the art used for loading screens and the civilization leader art? Besides just, downloading a png and renaming it as a .dds file

Sorry about the fact that it took about a week - I fixed the issue you specified, but then found more things I wanted to fix or improve and so worked on a much bigger patch for both the UNSC and the Covenant, which had many similar issues with them. Version 5 of both the UNSC and the Covenant have now been released, and I can confidently say that the qualities of both mods have been improved across the board.

Oh hey great news - turns out the Covenant has the same exact issue as the UNSC mod, which I just fixed. Looks like the Covenant will be getting a Version 5 today too.

Also it turns out that's a known issue right in the Known Bugs section, but it's been so long that I forgot that I already knew about it. Either way, I'm getting Version 5 together now, and it will no longer be an issue in that version.

I have found and fixed the issue. I'm also going to throw in a couple of quality-of-life improvements and changes to the mod as well for the next version, so just give me a few hours or so and I'll release Version 5 of the mod.

I'll look into that right now. Which version of the mod are you using?

There's a error on the mod
if another player or AI it's controlling the UNSC and you go to "Victory Progress" or the cultural influence screen, the game sends a error message window and the UNSC icon becomes a red square
