I usually do a breakdown on why you should or shouldn't get a game, but honestly there isn't really much reason not to get it unless you simply aren't a fan of horde shooters, nearly everything is done perfectly from the gameplay all the way down to monetization, and I haven't met a single person who's tried the game and hated it. Side note: overclocks are easily my favorite mechanic and endgame progression I've seen in a long time

Genuinely a masterpiece, this expansion is destiny at its best, even more so than forsaken and the taken king were. The subclass is perfect, the story is genuinely compelling and doesn’t feel forced during any of the moments, the cutscenes are incredibly well made, and the environments are varied and detailed. There couldn’t have been a better end to a 10 year saga than this.

Tl;dr: It's a great game with a good dev team, although cursed by its own popularity and Sony intervention. Like with all games it has its issues and the occasional mistake from the developer's side, but they recognize these mistakes and try to fix them, and the community usually goes too hard on them.



Visuals and map design:
Probably the most underrated part of the game, every moment looks like an action movie, which is incredibly impressive, everything from the lighting to the foliage and particle effects look great. Not to mention every planet's biome is drastically different from the last, from foggy, stormy swamps that allow only hints of sunlight to leak through the thick groups of trees, to expansive mountainous fields filled with life, to a desolate desert wasteland with constant tectonic tremors, or even planets being pelted with acid rain that wears down the armor of both you and the enemy.

Progression:
A bit confusing for your first hour or two but you pick it up quick, everything can be unlocked for free but you can spend money to slightly increase the speed at which you unlock new gear, done in an interesting way to where you can technically pay to win, but in a way that doesn't feel unfair and base game players can still obtain everything rather quick when they aim for something. The sample system also encourages risky gameplay to maximize rewards, but with the chance of losing everything in the process.

Bug gameplay (terminids):
Likely what most players are used to in a horde shooter format, where kiting and crowd control matter more than precision, with the occasional heavy enemy the team has to focus on. Overall terminids are the easier mode in most cases because you don't need to rely on teamwork as much and fleeing from a tough fight is usually an option, however you can still get easily overrun when not careful.

Bot gameplay (automatons):
An altogether different playstyle compared to terminids, where strategy, positioning, and precise aim are required to fight effectively, the enemies are much more scarce and scattered, which lowers the need for crowd control, but most enemies are heavily armored and pack a much bigger punch than their bug counterparts, ragdoll-inducing attacks are particularly deadly when facing the bots because when you get knocked out of cover it often ends up in you getting hit by a barrage of missiles and an almost guaranteed death.

Main mechanic:
The most unique mechanic that helldivers brings to the table is stratagems, small devices you can enter key codes into in order to call in additional armaments or airstrikes from your ship to help you out in a tough situation, along with calling in a respawn for a dead teammate, which can be incredibly powerful but adds a bit more stress to the situation because you often have to get used to entering codes within a second to survive enemies heading towards you. They add a great deal of depth to the game and make it much more unique than the average horde shooter.

Accessibility:
The game has various different settings that cater to lesser parts of the playerbase that might need them, such as multiple different aim modes to cater to your playstyle, colorblind filters, and toggle settings for users with carpal tunnel or other similar conditions.

Drama:
We all knew this was coming, first there was the whole sony debacle that locked out 177 territories from the playing the game because they didn't have access to psn after requiring a forced login following an update a month or two after release, to which they've reverted this change and refunded all affected users, but steam still doesn't allow the game's purchase in those territories to this day for whatever reason, locking out thousands of fans.

Then now there's the current drama where the community only seems to recognize the 1-3 nerfs in each update and never even bother trying out the countless buffs to various items that were much less powerful beforehand, the community has gotten so pissed with Arrowhead over this that they've been review bombing this store page ever since the last update because the community's favorite braindead shotgun (with far too much crowd control power) and the flamethrower got nerfed (with the latter getting a full rework in the near future and still being good at its niche, and the former only losing 2 mags, which is completely counteracted by visiting many points around the map with ammo boxes or just using a resupply pack.) Granted, there are some undeserved nerfs that happen from time to time, such as the railgun getting nerfed due to a bug that the developers hadn't been made aware of soon after release and the slugger getting its stagger and destruction stats removed, however nerfs like these are recognized and reverted when necessary.

As if the dlc weren’t already a huge issue for the game right now with how expensive they are, they decided to put the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ preorder reward on sale for 4 bucks 2 months after release. I’m losing more respect for starbreeze with every passing day.

I've stuck with this game since launch, hoping they would do something with it, but I've never been this disappointed by a game series I love so much before. I had lots of fun in my first couple hours of gameplay, then the servers went down for a whole week and barely functioned for another week after, which I'd normally excuse because this is starbreeze's first attempt at crossplay, but they didn't make up for the issue at all. In the next 2 months after the game's release there was 0 content updates whatsoever, then they only made one free and one paid update after that, it's now 4 months after the game's release with nothing past that.

Then there's the terrible matchmaking that makes you work to play the damn game, where it separates matchmaking between 44 different preferences (11 heists, 4 difficulties per heist) with no option for quickplay or random matchmaking, and as if that wasn't enough the party bug, a bug that occasionally prevents you from playing with your friends until everybody involved restarts their game, still hasn't been patched.

As for the dlc, not only is the pricing just absurd, costing around 20 bucks for each chapter, but they also re-released the preorder reward cosmetics as their own separate dlc along with the first chapter.

Then there's the terrible community support, in every stream they constantly say that things suggested and/or should've been features since release are "on the table" then they never act upon it, and they have a full suggestion forum that hasn't even been viewed by them since BEFORE THE GAME EVEN RELEASED.

This was my second ever preorder I've ever done, and I only did it because I trusted starbreeze after all of the good they did for payday 2, but now I'm even more disappointed than I was with destiny 2, and that game removed all of the content I bought a few years after release. Don't bother spending money on this game, at least for now, after 162 hours of this game, all it'll bring you is disappointment.

I killed a man 5 times and he kept coming back, so I chased him across the continent, shaming him to a fate worse than death until he went completely insane and only spoke through "woo" sounds, after which I made him the overlord of my fort.

A literal nightmare in terms of adaptability and difficulty, but a blast due to that. The final level made me sweat and stress more than any game I've played before, and it felt so damn good to finally beat it.
