It is not much of a hot take to say that Elden Ring is a great game, and there is not much else to say about it. So, this review is coming from the perspective of someone who can't play games as often as he would like, as I have a full time job. I enjoy playing a wide variety of games and generally get bored quite quickly of games that stretch for too long. This game almost falls into this category for me. If it weren't for Fromsoftware's impecable talent and ability for making games, I don't think I would have finished this game. Almost everything is perfect: the environments are breathtaking, the combat is amazing, the controlls are fluid, the music and sound design are on point. And, as has been pointed out many times already, there are many ways to regulate the difficulty of this game: summoning other players is easier than ever, you have your own spirit summons to summon ai enemies to fight for you, casting magic is good and a very viable option if you are on the fence about melee combat.

However, the game is HUGE, I think anyone who has not been spoiled has found this game to be much bigger than they expected. This is not a bad thing inherently, as this huge, sprawling and interconnected open world is something some people are looking for. If you don't want to invest a lot of time into a game, it can be a bit daunting. It took me over a year of playing this game to beat it. Not because it was too hard or because I didn't like it, it just never ended, and other games caught my attention.

All in all, this game is Fromsoft's crowning achievement: 30 years of game development have culminated into this masterpiece of a game.

I couldn't stomach playing this game. After a little over 5 hours I gave up. I personally have found that games that try to be realistic and punish you for it are not for me. I don't enjoy the equipment limit, fast travel forces you to stare at a screen for the duration of the travel, there is no pointer while you shoot an arrow. All of this culminate in a slog of an experience. This is not necessarily bad for everyone, I just don't like this kind of game design.

The story is meh (at least the beginning of it is very cliche), and the mediocre (English) voice acting doesn't do a good enough job to sell me said story, which is not good for a relatively story driven game. I would also like to point out how, despite the game priding itself on being historically accurate, I cannot help but wonder how realistic it would've been for a medieval peasant to go through this sort of adventure, but this is a nitpick.

Overall, this game is not for me. It is not necessarily bad, but if "realistic" gameplay doesn't seem appealing to you, I wouldn't bother with this game. Otherwise I would grab it on a sale.
