I got kcd for $3 and felt so bad after some hours of gameplay because I realized it deserves to be purchased full price. I fell in love with this game as it really shows how the devs put their hearts in it. Beautiful art and soundtrack, tons of content, choices really matter in a lot of quests, almost no fantasy elements which is a breath of fresh air for me, excellent voice acting and the freedom of doing things my own way. It has the perfect amount of realism without sacrificing things that make games fun to play. It would be super boring if it was too realistic, as in having no alchemy, no fast travel, no infinite weight capacity (you can carry a ridiculous amount of inventory but you walk very slow), for example. It's fun to talk to npcs because writing is just that good. You can go everywhere and do whatever you like between main quests.

My second favorite game after kcd2 of course. I will never shut up about this game until the day I die!!

Wonderful RPG experience! has some jank and can be a little slow at the beginning, but overall its incredibly fun and engaging to play.

This game has a cult following and I have no idea why. I've tried on 3 separate occasions to play it, thinking maybe I'm missing something. But every time I start the game, I think I've accidentally loaded up a Michael J. Fox simulator instead, because the protagonist sways dramatically while standing still. And when I complain to forums that I'm getting motion sick from moving like Captain Jack Sparrow, I'm told one of two things:

1. "Get gud"
2. "Realism"

Fans of this game seem to be sadists, celebrating every bad development decision as though poor user experience is a feature of the game. For instance, this game explains almost nothing. You'll be running back to Google every 5 seconds, going "How do I...?" while fans fall to their knees and rejoice, shouting, "I love how this game doesn't hold your hand!" Losing every fight for the first 50 hours of the game? "Well, duh! You can't expect a blacksmith's son to be skilled with weapons! Realism!" Trying to fire an arrow but your aim is about as steady as a drunk epileptic on a fishing boat? "Just practice for like 300 hours and bows become OP!"

I don't get it. Everything this game does, another game has already done 1000x better. For instance, RDR2, which came out the same year, makes a mockery of this game with how much better it is. In Kingdom Come, if you're sleepy, you can't just sleep anywhere. Even though there's a perfectly good pile of hay right there, you have to find a designated sleep area. Whereas with RDR2, you can just set up camp anywhere.

And combat, which should be the star of a first-person medieval game, is frustratingly broken. The game forces you to lock on to one person, which means that one person's 4 friends are just going to sprint behind you at Usain Bolt speeds and start pummeling you while you and your foe slow dance. Because you can't swing first. Any attack (and I mean ANY attack — feint, combo, sprint past them and try to hit them from an angle) is countered. Which you then counter. Which they then counter. And so on, until you're locked in a slow-motion back-and-forth one-button pressing contest for 3 straight minutes. So you wait for them to attack. Except the enemy is just as patient as you are. So you circle each other, doing nothing, until you start to feel like you're on a merry-go-round and need to pause the game before you vomit. And if you do finally beat your opponent, they just collapse to the ground with ragdoll physics. Zero heads or limbs can be cut off in this game. Where's the realism crowd on that one?

The draw distance is like 10 feet, so things are constantly popping into existence right next to me. The graphics are god-awful — after items DO get rendered, it looks like they didn't FINISH rendering. Everything is generic and bland and important characters are never where they're supposed to be. Looking for the bailiff? Well, he MIGHT be at his post. Or he MIGHT be walking the top of the fence on the other side of town. And there are no indicators of any kind to help you in finding him. Realism!

In fact, it almost seems like the developers figured out all the things gamers hate and then put it all into one game. Do you like armor and weapons that deteriorate ridiculously fast and become unrepairable after their durability reaches zero? Nobody does, right? It's in the game! Do you like nonsensical save points and no quick save option, so that when you die you lose several hours of gameplay? Sounds great, doesn't it? It's in the game! Do you like pointless fetch quests that make it seem like the developers ran out of ideas and are stalling for time? Well, prepare to find birds in a forest as like your 3rd quest! And wait until your trying to find a very specific spot to dig in the mud with your only clue being "It's near a dovecote." What is a dovecote? Better ask Google! And does it sound fun to only show a maximum of 3 quests on the map at a time for no reason whatsoever? You got it! And you know those minigames that people love like Gwent? Well, ours is just throwing dice and then counting numbers! Exciting, right? Oh, remember that lockpicking mechanic that people hate from Skyrim and Fallout? Get this. We've made ours worse! Now instead of just turning the lock, a spastic ball will jiggle around so randomly that you'll start to wonder if Henry has cerebral palsy! Unnecessarily long plant picking animation? We got it. An inventory system with zero organization? You know it. And don't even get us started on being overburdened before you've even put on an entire set of clothes.

Fanboys are raving that this game ruined every other game for them because nothing will ever be this good again. They claim it "changed their lives." How? Because your poorly rendered player walked out of a bathhouse, stepped in a small puddle, and became so filthy that people he talked to were repulsed? The only way to play this game is to download 100 mods. Mods that remove master strike, mods that give you more carry weight, mods that slow down your item deterioration, mods that allow you to quicksave. Finally, I got so tired of being jumped and surrounded by 5 guys as my camera spun in dizzying circles that I enabled god mode. And even invincible, it took me nearly 30 minutes to defeat one guy, who then took off running faster than my horse could catch him. I shouldn't have to rewrite your game code and completely change everything about your game in order to get some semblance of enjoyment out of it.

Maybe the developers should "get gud" at developing games.
