Doorkickers is a special game. Heavily influenced by the old SWAT games from Sierra, this game delivers the feeling of tactical savviness know-how combined with stop motion timing.

At its core its a tactical RTS where you can stop and pause time and plan your routes and the actions of your SWAT squad. But things don't get any easier because you can stop time or your actions, cause the action is still ongoing when you are.

(Some of) your actions and decisions in-game lead to the overall outcome. When and how to attack/tackle each room is a puzzle in itself. Attention to detail is required and a need to constantly be on top of things.

This game relies on the details and being smart. Each mission is divided into small chapters where you set your loadout of officers (classes) and choose their equipment and gear to use on each mission and you are ready to embark on the missions dealing with terrorists and deal with hostage situations as well as gathering evidence.

There is not what I would like to call, branching-tactics, as it's a straight-up shoot the bad guys down and don't get killed whilst hunting them down. So no negotiating or the such.

In that regard, it's quite an "action-oriented" game. And that's not a bad thing as it keeps the pace of the game intense and it makes you feel like a real squad commander handing out commands that could be directly fatal to your squad members. With those commands, there are also real-life consequences for your armed officers, if they do die in-game, their deaths will be permanent. So it's not just moving in on targets and live to die another day, but you actually do build a bond with these relativley faceless and nameless officers, and you can even give them nicknames, which makes you even more attached to each officer after a while of gaming.

Door kickers is solid enough to keep you going for many hours and the missions are interesting and challenging enough to not be too frustrating but hard enough to break you a sweat or two. The developers that made this game are clearly passionate and still active at Steam, so I love the fact that 5 years after its release they are still devoted to the community, and currently developing what seems to be part 2 of this game. Based on the first game, I'll support the developers but with a few needed minor tweaks.

From my point of view, the game lacks in one part, and that is the classes that you get to choose. I wish that there was more purpose to each class and distinct them even more. As is, some classes make way more sense and are more usable than other classes, and that's a shame. As you go along, you tend to choose certain classes more than others because of their efficiency.

I won't spoil here what classes they are and what each does, but it would be great to need each classes specialties even more. To get a hint of what the game is and what I am trying to say is, imagine having Chicago Bulls as your team, and your job is to pick the right players for the game.

Imagine being able to have a team full of Michael Jordans. Why would you choose anyone else? That's the biggest dilemma I can find in this game and Yes, I am inspired by the Last Dance. :D But I hope you get the point I am trying to make. Again, this a minor issue that doesn't affect the overall game quality, but something that would be much appreciated, and something I feel is more in the in-game level game design.

This game is for anyone seeking to get that rush and feeling of being a tactical commander and trying your chops in a cool game setting. The graphics aren't way to advanced and nor do they need to be, it's clear and that's the most important part. As for the music it fits the tempo of the game perfectly, as well are the cool sound effects.

Thought and effort has gone into this game, so I recommend anyone to play this game and have a blast playing it.
