Dragonball Sparking Zero

First of all, I would like to say that I was really looking forward to this game, and I also played the previous games, and now finally after 17 long years, a new part is coming out that shaped my childhood and I can only say that I love it. It takes me back to my old days, it feels like it used to. But it also has its downsides, but more on that later.

What do I like about DBSZ?

The fighting system feels very familiar to me, perhaps it is of course due to previous experience, but I think it is also possible for newcomers for the most part, as some of the combos are not difficult to practice like in Tekken or other fighting games. The focus here is more on the right timing, I have played a lot for Honor and it is heading in that direction too. Overall, I think the game is pretty well balanced, but there are a few things that I think are unfair and that need to be adjusted. The story mode is not the main focus of this game - I've seen that a lot of people say it's a criterion, but this game isn't designed for story, it's for combat, and you get that in abundance. For people who like to play story, I can only recommend Dragon Ball Z Kakarot, it's quite simple to understand and the story is much deeper than DBSZ, where you don't even understand what it's about (as a new player). I also really like the variety of characters at the start of the game. I'm excited to see what else is in store for us.

What I don't like about DBSZ?

Well, almost all of my shortcomings will probably relate to online ranked, because the game is perfect for offline play, but not for online.
- 1. If you offer ranked, in my opinion it's obvious to balance and adapt characters. Whether lore or not, more life or more damage than other units is simply not fair and gives the other an advantage, which means that we always see the same 4 characters in ranked.
- 2. Why do you limit a successor with good features that the predecessor had? For example, in the predecessor we had a precise display of which attacks were blast attacks and which were punch attacks. New players won't know from the name in the menu which items are useful for their attacks. It's a shame that something like that was removed, a feature that I thought was really good.
- 3. Points system and rage quit. Why the hell do you get fewer or the same number of points in the ranked game for a win or a loss??? How are you supposed to climb up properly? I don't know if it's intentional to keep people in the ranked game for longer, but I've played several games with a points system like that and I've all stopped because it's just a pain. People who leave the game on purpose should get a penalty and the winner should be rewarded with points in that case, that's a clear case. There's no second opinion.
- 4. Constant lags due to server problems or people with lag switches... come on, we live in a time where it will probably be possible to set up a decent server. Dragonball Legends can tell you a thing or two about lag switches, it has gotten worse since the PC version for legends, it should be banned and that's it.

Personal preferences

- Crossplay simply has to be included in a fighting game, especially nowadays when these games are no longer as popular or present later on, it would definitely be an advantage for the community and also for the lifespan of DBSZ.

Many people complain that some things are unfair, like the instant sparking mode. I can understand this to some extent, but I wouldn't take them out of the game, I would just nerf them as mentioned in point 1. As far as balancing goes, many things counter other things, unfortunately, it is not possible to take everything into account in a 1v1 but this is good for the DP fights.

All in all, I have a lot of fun with Sparking Zero and enjoy playing it and will probably continue to play it in the near future. I hope that the developers come to us and listen to what we say and what we expect from them. In my opinion, this game is very good but still a 6 out of 10 because there is sooooo much room for improvement.

I expect great things in the upcoming announcements and updates, even if it takes a long time, the main thing is that it is done correctly.

Kind regards,

Smytronix
