excellent remaster/remake. beautiful remade pixel art from the original risk of rain, classic ror gameplay with new content/survivors, i could go on. If you like ror2, chances are you're gonna like this (you might have to get used to the horizontal-only combat though) One feature I actually like is the new control scheme based off of ror2's, the original was pretty jarring for me so that's the one I use. If you like the original ror, there's a bunch more content that you can disable if it doesn't suit your fancy, plus beautifully made new pixel art. Seriously it's really good.

good game also it has gup

it's great because it's dark souls. but some of the game design decisions the devs made on this one are just absolutely ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ baffling at times

This is one of my favorite games of all time. Definitely in my top 10.

The Desolate Hope has one of the most incredible stories in any video game I've ever played, or at least to me. IMO it's on par with Dark Souls in terms of sheer meaning and absolute quality. I won't spoil anything, but just make sure to read the dialogue (that's my only gripe with the story in this game being the way it's told). The story is complex but not difficult to understand in its premise. You can play through the game and as long as you read the dialogue you'll get a heartwarming and quite meaningful story. But if you look deep into the goals and motivations of each character, and in my experience, connect it with your own life, it is one of the most beautiful stories and messages ever told in a video game.

Of course, the artstyle is just as good if not better. The art in this game is some of my favorite video game art ever made, easily on par with Machinarium (if you've ever played or seen that, also very underrated game). The worlds, backgrounds, characters, bosses, enemies, EVERYTHING's designs are just gorgeous to look at, and they tell their own story. You can see the effort in every detail. Sometimes I like to stare at the backgrounds for like 5 minutes just looking at everything.

Another noteworthy mention is the not-so-original soundtrack. When you hear that it's all stock music you assume it's going to suck...hell no. Scott Cawthon knows how to use stock music to its maximum potential, and the music in this game has inspired my own music (I create alternative/electronic music of my own as a hobby, in fact I'm creating a TDH song right now). That's pretty impressive considering this music was originally written as generic electronic music for slideshows or videos or whatnot, but will now, in my memory, live on as an incredible soundtrack to perfectly accompany a gorgeous world and beautiful story.

Finally, the only part of the game that fails in some aspects to me...the gameplay. It is by no means bad, in fact it can get quite addicting (specifically the battle system once you learn how to use it properly). However, the level design isn't the greatest as there's often a lot of just walking, there's little actual platforming, and when you're exploring the different worlds it boils down to exploration (which isn't bad mind you, just often a little stale). The night cycle where you collect items to give to the characters is an interesting idea but again quite boring and monotonous. There's also some grinding that you'll want to do if you want to be a little more safe in battle, but not necessary in my experience. Still the gameplay is by no means bad, and you will most likely find enjoyment in the battle system, but it's the only part of this game I can't give a glowing 10/10 on.

That aside, this is a must play if you're into meaningful, deep, and complex stories and lore, insane and masterful art and visual design, and a beautiful, nostalgic and memorable soundtrack. Still very fun gameplay, just not the reason I give it this glowing review.

Overall: you can tell love went into this game, and as my favorite Scott Cawthon game of all time, I think this is his magnum opus. This game demonstrates why and how he is really so talented. Please do yourself a favor and play this game.

9/10

TF2 is what I would consider to be my favorite game of all time. Unfortunately, it's plagued by bots of all varieties, inconsequential performance issues, and most notably, a near complete lack of developer support from Valve. Fix your ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game. There's no way they don't have the resources to do SOMETHING. #FixTF2
