The first thing to strike me about Valheim was the art style. Deliberate low resolution, pixelated textures bring an adjustment curve to those of us used to the likes of Conan or Day-Z. However from this simplicity exudes a mystical ambience of wonderment. From forested hillsides scattered with golden sunbeams, eerie swamps filled with terrors approaching through the mist, cold harsh mountains and vast oceans to navigate. Every biome has it's own sense and feeling that makes the game extremely enjoyable and more importantly makes you want to explore.
The progression is good too. Seemingly well balanced considering it's early access status and the epic and dramatic boss fights lay out a solid clear path of improvement as you seek to defeat each one in turn.
A straightforward building system gives you all the tools you need to craft your first viking longhouse with a timber frame and thatched roof, until that time when you are established enough to create a mighty castle. You will need to, as night time raids from ever increasingly mortifying creatures seek to destroy that which you have created.
There is much more to talk about but I won't spoil your own experience, certainly one I will not forget for a long time. So yes a thumbs up from me and a definite recommendation to anyone and everyone.
