В игре по сути стандартный сюжет для серии игр GTA, вы играете за профессиональных грабителей, который по ходу игры выполняют помимо ограблений свои личные квесты по спасению семьи, корешей и т.д. Глобальный для этой серии отличием было нововведение в игру 3-х играбельных персонажей, что позволило внести в игру достаточно разнообразия в геймплее.
