High Definition Nostalgia

The Good:
  • Visuals worthy of being called a Remaster. Unlike other remastered games, just adding a few details here and there, this game actually updated and improved the overall appearance of the game. Better textures, reduced or more controlled colors, refined shapes of objects, this remaster was truely able to build its atmosphere.
  • Game enhancements kept the suspense going. The developers added another type of zombie in the game, the "Crimson Heads". It made me think twice before walking close to any fallen zombie. If you're going back to this game, it should add enough tension and resource management to keep the game interesting even if you've been through most of the sequences.

The Bad:
This is a list for those who are walking into this game for the first time. Beware! If you've played the original then maybe this won't be an issue for you, best that you skip to my 2nd complaint.

  • Inventory horror. I don't know if I've been spoiled by most modern game's intventory system, but intentory management in RE Remaster is totally a rythm breaker. So you figured out which item to use, but you didn't carry it. So you have to run all the way back into the "safe room" to get it! You'll spend most of your time running back to the storage box to keep or take items. This game would be a lot shorter if you could carry all items at once. I don't want to ruin the inventory management as a part of a survival horror game, but maybe the devs could increase your storage capacity by at least 2 more slots.. (?)
  • Slow Down Glitch. In my play through as Chris, I encountered sections of the game where instead of his usual running speed he would just slow down. I tried looking for solutions in various forums, but ultimately I just gave up on playing Chris and continued using Jill instead.

The Recommendation:
  • If you're a fan of the original series, a collector of Resident Evil titles, then YES. This game is a must have and I would totally recommend it to you. At what price should you get this game? Well thats totally up to you, some would pay full price for their collection while others might wait for a sale.
  • If you're going to play this game for the first time, then I strongly recommend that you get it for 50-75% off at the very least. Glitches and Inventory management simply breaks the rythm and kills the mood that the game visuals built so well. Back tracking around the mansion can be mind numbing.

Overall, this is a good game that deserves to be experienced at its improved condition if you have the patience to deal with its inventory issues.
