TLDR; 5.5/10. If you've already played your fair share of western RPGs, this is nothing more than classic open world "rpg" slop. However, if you're new to the genre or love western open world RPGs, I think you'll have a great time exploring Horizon Zero Dawn.

Horizon Zero Dawn is far from a bad game, but for anyone familiar with Western RPGs, it offers nothing that hasn't already been done by other open-world titles over the past decade.

I'll start with the good: the visuals can be breathtaking and the machine enemies have awesome visual designs and neat game play elements.

My problem lies in what HZD doesn't do. It doesn't offer very compelling gameplay; the combat is decent but suffers from lackluster ranged and melee mechanics and you're given arguably the best combat ability in the game (slow time when aiming while in midair) in the first hour or so. This makes all future encounters trivial so long as Aloy B hops like a CSGO knife surfer while fighting robot dogs.

The story beats are painfully predictable and I never felt very invested in any of the characters or plot. I don't necessarily need RDR2 level characters and dialogue in my game, but with how little HZD offers in terms of exciting combat, or engaging exploration, the story is just one more thing that bored me while playing. Horizon Zero Dawn also feels like the most "gamey" RPG I've ever played, something about the level design and character dialogue-- especially in the prologue and intro-- never let me forget that I was playing a hit open world narritive-driven PlayStation Studios™ video game.

All in all, the game isn't necessarily bad, but if you've played any recent ubisoft game, you've played Horizon Zero Dawn 8 times over. It feels like the game was designed to be played after a day of work on a TV in the living room with no headphones on while you're talking about your day with your girlfriend in the other room. It's a filler game to hold you over until the next release season.

Great RTS game, lots of Civ variety and the eco system really set AOE4 apart from other RTS.

I love Bethesda games, and for a bit I really liked it as well. However, Starfield simply has no soul, it has no creative vision, and it feels like it has no passion. The writing is horrendous, Emil Pagliarulo must be hiding Todd Howard's name from Epstein's flight logs; how this man has managed to stay at BGS is beyond me. His writing is so simple, bland, and uninspired in a genre that THRIVES on interesting stories and player interaction. I cannot overstate how much this game is hindered by lazy, safe writing that has nothing to say and treats you like a lobotomite stuck in a skinner box.

The gameplay is basically exactly what you'd expect from a BGS shooter, it's perfectly serviceable gunplay that can feel a bit clunky and samey but has its satisfying moments. The crafting system from Fallout 4 is sort of back, but they managed to turn a great system that made upgrading your weapons both an important combat boost, and a fun way to visually customize the look of your character. You can still upgrade guns but there are little to no visual changes in upgrades, and most of the customization is locked behind multiple perk trees that you'll need to invest hours into just to make your 237th Grendel deal +4 more damage.

Anyway I'm going to go play Baldurs Gate 3 now.
