Im dissapointed in the new player experience.
First of all I alwas wanted to get into fighting games. I also understand that those games are especially complex and fast pased. Therefore as a very beginner I started out with the tutorial missions.
Even in the very first tutorial missions I got really frustrated. Let me list a few examples:

- Double Jump
"evade the attack by Jumping and then use a jump in any direction" - well turns out even while the tutorial specifically list diagonal inputs you can only do a normal double jump. Since the timing to evade the attack is quite precice and at my first two tries I plunged directly into the attack I assumed that I should evade the attack by jumping sideways. I basically did multiple diagonal inputs in the air in it just didnt work. In the end the tutorial text was just wrong and the tutorial only allows for a straight upwards double jump

- General Input Timings
I generally had/have no Idea what certain symbols mean. A curved Arrow from Right to bottom, then straight right was confusing to me. I interpreted as right, down, right. I tried it out and failed over and over. Then I thought maybe its down, right, down instead, since from the symbol I couldn't really tell. Here I just had to input the buttons very fast (I used my d-pad on a controller, its way easier with the analoge stick). This misunderstanding is annoying. And I feel like an idiot trying out what seems to be easy instructions, there is so much guesswork.

- Basic Recommendations
I still do not know If Guilty Gear should be played with a keyboard, Controller (analoge stick) or Controller (D-Pad) and im sure there are people who can play with either of those controls. But for me I was unsure if my misinputs are just natural, a lack of talent, or if im using the "wrong" input device. The control I mentioned previously was easier to execute with an analoge stick, while inputting via analoge stick proofed to be very finicky when I tried to perform air dashes.

- Overall Experience
In my hour of testing I felt like doing an exam. I had no fun and it seemed to that I would need to invest another 5 hours just to get the basics down. Then I would have to memorize several input string and bite my tongue for every misinput in game. I just can't see the light at the end of the tunnel and wish that there is a breadcrumb of fun in the learning path that keeps me going. I refunded the game because im afraid of giving up half way, being frustrated for hours and have spend money for that experience.

The tutorials are pretty bad in the game to be honest, and inputs can be a bit hard, tho with time and effort it can be done and passed, as for which is better to play with, it's ultimately up to you, Controller makes inputs with the Analog stick easier for some, but keyboard has it more easy to understand how to do said inputs. I myself have done Keyboard but both are doable. Ultimately that's the thing of fighting games is that it's a thing you need to put some time into to get good, but if you have friends that play it with you, and along your skill level it will be a much more enjoyable experience.

I still want to get intofighting games. I guess 30€ is just to much of a commitment when I do not know if Im actually getting rewarded for the time I invest. Also I do not know if I really can invest enough time.
I'll try my luck with another, maybe free to play title and hope that some inputs and concepts carry over to other fighting games.

Nonetheless I really hope that fighting games can get easier to get into. I heard that Tekken implements AI ghosts which play like you or other opponents and even implement their strategies. It would be great to have a feedback on what im doing wrong.

In fact, you can have fun just by playing the game. Maybe you're just asking too much of yourself. This game is very complex. If you can't do a Z-input, don't do it. On floors 2-6, players often fail inputs 5 times in a row.

When I started playing this game all I did was play through the arcade a couple of times. After that I immediately went to the tower. I was assigned to the 6th floor where Bridget immediately beat me. I very quickly went down to the 4th floor and began to enjoy life. Now I have 300 hours and I live on the 10th floor. From time to time I climb the celestial. All I did to achieve this was just play. So that you understand, out of these three hundred hours, I spent only 5 in the training room and only 2 hours in training missions.

I was stuck at the same spot so I skipped it. Figured I knew enough about fighting games that I'd be alright.

I've started story mode and 10 min later I'm still waiting for the cutscenes to stop. I didn't exactly sign up to watch an anime when I wanted to PLAY this game... you're not missing much

Imo side scroller games like guilty gear are way less beginner friendly just due to how complicated simple moves can get sometimes so getting into games like that makes it a case of dedicating yourself to learning moves and combos while having fun doing it at the same time but tbh if your trying to get into a fighting game, id recommend a platformer game like SSBU or brawlhalla as a first just because while it is more fast paced, some combos like on smash really can be condensed to just afew buttons, so it sticks to you easier than what you experienced while also still being fun at the same time even though its simpler. This is obv just my opinion and fighting games may just not be your type of game in the end yk
