Who put negative reviews for this game? What is wrong with people? It's literally perfect. It is epic, challenging, satisfying, frightening, beautiful, amazing sound, music, visuals, animation, hugely varied weapons, armour, items... the list goes on... What more could you possibly want? Some people will never be happy.

This is the game we've all been waiting for since the N64 came out and we never got the game we wanted. This game is amazing. Please don't get sued. Please use your riches from a ridiculous amount of sales to develop this into the masterpiece it deserves to be.

Amazing. If you enjoy survival, crafting and exploration this is the game. This achieves what so many games have tried but fallen short. Visually stunning, fun but relatively challenging combat, immersive, rewards exploration. I could go on and on, even after only about 2 hours. I'm hooked. And it's still only in early access. Support these devs. They deserve it.

This is Oblivion in space.
This oozes that same feel as Oblivion.
If anyone else remembers, as I do, Oblivion was not without its shortcomings. Its main quest line was interesting enough to be engaging but was nothing groundbreaking. Dialogue options for the character weren't amazing. Voice acting wasn't great. It had bugs, Menus and inventory were a little clunky. Etc etc.
However, even with the above shortcomings (and others) before expansions and a plethora of mods, Oblivion is one of the greatest gaming experiences that can be had to this day.
The side quests were abundant and interesting, the game rewarded you for exploring in so many ways, and it just gave you reasons to play, and keep playing, and keep playing...
Starfield is the same.
Yes there is loading screens, it's not a seamless experience.
But as we know from "seamless" experiences such as No Man's Sky and Elite Dangerous, they can be extremely time consuming and very boring.
I've seen the loading screens and fast travel become a point of contention in all reviews so far. If you want a space sim go play elite. Starfield is not a sim. It respects your time as a human with a life outside of gaming, it caters to actual people and not just critics, it allows you to get on with actually playing a game, rather than spending most of your time floating through space. Why would Bethesda want to create Elite again? I don't get people's issue with this.
An RPG is not and should not be a Sim.
Starfield has taken influence from games such as Mass Effect, No Man's Sky and Elite Dangerous, but it is not those games. It is very much a Bethesda game.
And it is brilliant.
Side quests are varied and engaging. Exploration is rewarding. Looting is satisfying. The visuals are stunning. The music and sound effects are on point. Space combat is satisfying. Gunplay is satisfying....
I can go on and on but I'm trying to keep this as brief as possible while trying to dispel some of the misinformation (as I see it) being spread already by some major reviewers.
This isn't Elite Dangerous, which requires a significant time investment just to sit down and play.
This isn't No Man's Sky, which gets boring if you play for more than a few hours every 6 months.
The closest thing I can reasonably compare this to is the first Mass Effect, except if you want to jump off the causeway over the water in the citadel (New Atlantis) and go for a swim, you can.

If you were hoping for a space sim. You will be disappointed, and rightly so, Elite Dangerous already exists and you shouldn't have expected that Bethesda would just copy another title.

However if you, like me, played 100s of hours of Oblivion and think it still holds as one of the best titles to ever be released...
Welcome to Oblivion in Space.
Enjoy

The most important thing I have to say is... THIS IS A FUN GAME.
Ok I'll admit the price is a bit high for an expansion that doesn't add a huge amount of content.... or is it? If Odyssey was standalone and didn't include ship flight as a core feature it would still be better than most of the piece of crap fps games coming out these days with an equal or higher price tag, and in saying that there will most likely be more content, as there always is with FD, and it will be free after the initial purchase, as it always has been, it would have required a massive amount of work (which FD have been pretty transparent about) and with that work comes a cost. So either we get these price tags or we get the developers trying to compensate elsewhere (do you really want the premium currency to be able to effect gameplay?).

Now as for performance. I have a HP pavilion I got in 2013, it has an i7-4770k and i've since upgraded it with a better power supply, SSD and GTX1050Ti... nothing massive. I generally run at 720p for better framerate and upon the odyssey release I had to drop the rest of my settings from ultra to high... no big deal. Not sure what broken arse computers people are using but the performance is not that bad, your alternative at this point is Star Citizen and yeah have fun with that.

And on that note, bugs. I've encountered 2. I got the notorious stuck in tutorial bug where the ship didn't come to pick me up. Whatever, exited the game, came back, reloaded at the last check point, all was well, quests not resolving is a common occurrence in games. Some hours after that my game randomly crashed when I attempted to land backwards on a pad (the landing computer went blue, I thought maybe it would auto spin my ship now, new feature? no, game crash bait lol). Other than than I've had none of the other bugs, no server issues (and my internet is ♥♥♥♥).

The interface is new, a little clunky but it didn't take me long to figure it out, and now I like it and can't even remember the old one. People should stop complaining because things are different and require you to use more of your brain.

All in all if you love ED, get this, play it, enjoy it, enjoy more content as it comes, support FD because they've continually provided one of the most stable online gaming experiences to be had and on the only decent space sim to boot. Alot of work has been done and is still being done on Odyssey.

End note: how many of you haters were pressuring FD to release Odyssey already? and now you say they should have waited? Classic.

Edit: Pretty sure everyone is just really butthurt because all they wanted to do was walk around inside their ship and wank, but they can't and FD never actually promised that so all they can do is find any tiny thing that happens while they are playing ED and report is as FD's fault and slam them with negative reviews. Are you guys THAT bored from covid?

Just saying, if you're reading this section it means you are at least curious, you should play Dota. I have played more Dota (which is free) than any game i've payed for, perhaps even combined. Yeah it can be frustrating, even infuriating, but it is also satisfying and the constant updates and tweaks mean it never gets boring. And if you really don't like it, you can just uninstall it and you've paid nothing. Dota YEW!

Ok so I've just glanced at this page and realised that people have been spouting alot of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ about this game. Please stop, the devs ARE actively developing this game, they have had alot of things go wrong and have to had to completely re-do the progression system due to popular demand. One of these things, for example, was a complete office relocation to London, which meant apart from moving all those employees and setting up the office, all the staff would have had to apply for working visas, find places to live etc... In other words thats alot of time where they would not have been developing.

Anyway just quickly, this game is actually an amazing effort so far, exploration, mining, survival, all that, plus space ships and journeying to the centre of planets and bouncing around asteroid fields and alot more. There is still alot of work to be done, yes, but it is FAR better than all these self righteous ♥♥♥♥♥ make it sound (who I'll bet have not ever written code to procedurally generate anything or ever been on developement staff, yeah you guys know whats going on XD). All those people complaining that its not Terarria should just go play Terarria and wait for Terarria 2 and also shut up. Yes there is mining and crafting and it looks the same but its a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ different game, get over it. So yeah if you like exploration, survival, crafting, space travel platformers then I would definitely recommend this game, if you are REALLY still unsure, then just wait till it comes out, don't write it off. But honestly, it's only $15. Thats a footlong subway, which you can enjoy for about 10 minutes, as opposed to a game which you can enjoy for 80+ hours even in early access (and i'll bet all those negative reviewers have logged a heap of hours and got their moneys worth before they complained)....

So moving on. I did some research to try and find other games in this genre to see if other people were doing the same thing/ had done it better. I found some forums on reddit with alot of conversation going on regarding Starbound and alot of it was from the past year, during my reading I found that someone had given a list of games that people could play if they really wanted to try something other than Starbound, same same but different kinda thing (Edge of Space, Planet Centauri, and 3 others I can't quite remember). I checked them out and they were all very similar, pretty much Terarria clones without space travel. My immediate thought was "I want space travel", so I have yet to find a game to rival Starbound in that aspect, which is like, the main aspect...

And just more on the DEV thing, at the moment there is updates every night, there is a site you can go to to check what those nightly updates will be (albeit on an ultra buggy version called Starbound - Unstable), as well as tri-monthly planned updates up to release. On top of that everyone seems to be raving over their $15 (seriously, ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ $15) purchase like they've been mortally betrayed. Guess what people, it takes ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ time to develop a computer game, especially if you've custom written the engine its being made on (as in this case). Lets just back to Terarria for a sec, announced in Jan 2011, released may 2011. Incredibly short release time... but who remembers what Terarria was back then? Not what it is now, from 2011 all the way up till now the devs have been constantly updating Terarria. If you download it today you aren't playing the same thing people played in 2011 after release. So even though they "released" the game 5 months after development started, it kind of looks like it only got finished this year, since its only now they are moving onto Terarria 2. So its kind of like the 2011 Terarria was an "early access" game, labelled as finished. But if it was finished why aren't we playing Terarria 2 now instead of Terarria 1.312421 or whatever the ♥♥♥♥.
And finally, how disappointing is it when you purchase an early access game, play the ♥♥♥♥ out of it, play it up to the release date, then it gets released and you realise you've done everything already..... What was the point of the release? If I was a dev I'd probably keep a fair bit of content behind closed doors until the actual release, just sayin.

Oh yeah and if you have noticed the 3000 odd complaints about this game, and are about to make your decision based on that. Keep in mind that not only is the game still listed as VERY POSITIVE because of the 20,000 odd positive reviews.... Also currently 2,500,000 copies of Starbound have been sold. That means that, as a percentage, only 0.0000012% of the people that purchased this have been tickled enough to complain about it on steam.... That is an insignificant proportion. If a glass of water had that much bin juice in it you'd drink it without even knowing.

Keep up the good work Devs, hope you catch a break and can buckle down to release. It's toxic communities like all of these minecraft fanboys that dishearten Devs into not releasing games...

To all those people giving these devs ♥♥♥♥ btw, how would you like if 3000 people dissed your creative brainchild just because they missed out on a Subway footlong ($15) for 80+ hours of actually satisfying and relaxing gameplay in a lovingly crafted and enourmously large universe with hundreds and hundreds of items to use for crafting and building etc etc etc? yeah, sounds pretty ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ stupid doesn't it.....
