I feel it has to be stated yet again.

This seems to be a functional downgrade from all the interesting game play of the original.

Also feels extremely clunky.

(below is more opinions due to playing the first game for a decent bit during its popularity so compairing the two)
it feels like they tried to remake the game with "modern" design
when the game died due to poor balancing and not enough care to fix said balancing
it feels slugish where the first while sometimes unusual it felt responcive.
the building feels significantly worse even though its more freedom it feels worse.

First off the only major con i can say is the length.
This game is quite small.

however every other aspect is a perfect fit for what was intended
from what i see they are adding free updates.
if it continues as it has it will only get better.

Short sweet and quite tricky at times.
Very good.
If you have some small change spare give it a try.

The horror is on point.
Great themeing.
Intersing gameplay but completely broken.

had multiple times the "tells" havent worked as in FULLY clearing every room with uv lights looking everywhere with not a single fingerprint.
ghosts walking through a hallway multiple times but not triggering the dots in the middle of it with motion detectors on either end of the hallway.

Quite a few minor issues due to how the game handles controls.
you cant open doors without turning off equipement and other minor issues.
ghost opening doors on other floors when its on other floors.


Tldr great idea very good when it works but is occasionally just broken beyond reasonable levels and can ruin runs due to that brokenness

The good


Great premise.
This is litterally all of btd6's good stuff combined with btdbattles.
ALMOST the perfect example of a pvp tower defence game.
Bringing all of the good stuff from btd6 and how fun and intense battles was
I throughly enjoyed the battles themselves.
Excluding issues below every other aspect is literally flawless. (opinion duh)


The bad


(my opinion)
Lack of past match overviews (towers used/result screen) would be enough
No real heads up when balloon swaps (from what i noticed)
Latency for placing and upgrading can be felt pretty badly sometimes (just on your side not talking about visuals of Someone leaking) which is just simple net code issues.
Instant on release cosmetics and battle pass. sorry but your holding back content from players and time restricting it WHY. (i know its just for money but expressing it like this gets the point across better imo (♥♥♥♥♥♥ practice for a company imo as at least PROVE why you diserve our money first in a free game))
It kinda feels like mobile game just released on pc to milk the few whale pc players partly.


Tbh those dont really help but below is the kicker the grind for xp is.
(below is math to prove above statement)
for reference i used only 1 tower for a semi long period of time and ended up getting about 400 xp for it (xp boosted btw).
to UNLOCK just 1 of the tier 5 upgrades you require 40K xp

i will give reference to one of the cheeper towers and the most expencive xp ones
Dart monkey requires a total of 122000 xp to fully unlock all paths to tier 5
The tack shooter requires a total of 121400 xp to fully unlock all paths to tier 5
The super monkey requires a total of 487000 xp to fully unlock all paths to tier 5

Now keep in mind this is the train of logic for EVERY TOWER (not checking directly but memory off btd6 as values pulled from there)
6 primary (cheeper end xp costs)
7 military (average xp costs)
5 magic (highest and middling xp costs)
4 support (average xp costs)

lets say that ALL monkeys take about 200k to finish on all 22 towers (excluding hero's who have own use for xp btw)
4400000 xp split across every tower. keep in mind this isnt including if you earn to much on 1 tower or are slightly low on xp for another and require a full match to finish.

4400000/400 is 11000 WINNING matches
roughly that is.
Keep in mind this math is estimations on a middling ground and not including how good nor bad a tower is without specific upgrades ... example is boomerang is kinda bad without its tier 3 upgrades. not useless but just very not good.
(small edit) no i am NOT going through every tower's xp







TLDR great premise.
Iffy execution hope it will be fixed.

Edit below of some extra thoughts.
I would suggest you play the game but it CURRENTLY (at the time of the review) is not in a good state. This game has huge potential but is currently spoiled by the above flaws.

TLDR good game though modding makes it even better

Base game.
If i had to choose a game that i will play and is pvp 1v1 this is almost always one of the best choices to make.
This game has all of the greatness of stick fight but with little to none of the issues.
Simply put this game is pretty good by default.

Modded game.
Do you have slight issues with something then why not try playing without it.
Would like to try some thing wacky go for it.
Would you like picking 5 cards at the very start and at the end of EACH round you got it. (can get 25 cards in 1 match).
Do you have 3 friends who play GO DO IT yes im meaning 4 player FFA or TDM.
Also do you like ending at round 5 of 1 person winning well you can remove that completely with mods you can go to round 30+. (personal experience it was hallerious at that point but we had to end due to visual effects baking it unplayable)
Do you like to take a good but intentionally wacky/silly game and make it worse mods have the solution for it.

Bought years ago now requires external accounts not related to steam or devs.

Not even purchaseable on steam no more (Which it is where it was originally released)

Requires epic games account even if you already owned and played poor implementation from a buyout results in hurting the game.

For if you even see this and are wondering yes i liked the game before but due to what i stated above and due to how epic is run i can nolonger in good faith suggest this game to ANYONE

TLDR at bottom

For anyone reading this realise im going to jump from point to point (no spoilers)
Enjoyable and fun gameplay.
Poor explination of some key mechanics.
Enjoyable and challanging difficulty scaling.
It is a rogue like game so all the pros and cons that have.
The character selection is cool and fun.
All non starting items are locked behind achievements.
Some achievements are ludicrously hard (warning for completionists).
It plays well alone but is more fun with friends.
The item scaling mechanics via player count are done PERFECTLY.
The difficulty mechanics are enjoyable.
There is a FEW minor bugs mainly how movement speed effects slopes and angles as in being launched extremely high if you move to fast. (edit) *which is mostly caused by the game engine and is not often accidentally triggered due to the requirements of being off the ground at pretty high speed and hitting a slope while maintaining that speed (very few characters can trigger this without items)*
The unlocking grind can be annoyed sometimes.
I have never came across game breaking glitches.

TLDR
Good game enjoyable to play,
No major glitches (only movement glitches).
Solo is enjoyable but coop is best experience.

*edit at 375 hours* yes i would still recommend even after almost 400 hours and 100% of the achievements. still amazing to this day.

*edit due to seekers dlc launch* they made the hud worse readability and it feels significantly more lagy in multiplayer. the hud used to be your health is a number but also a percentage of a bar that fills and lowers due to healing and dmg. NOW IT ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ TAKES TIME TO LOWER BUT STILL INSTAKILLS YOU SHOULD IT REACH 0. make it a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ instant percentage or make it so your bar has to empty before you die. YOUR MAKING THE GAME HARDER TO READ. Also like others say yes the new items are SIGNIFCANTLY worse then most the old ones. either being useless or actually detremental. one is so broken that it makes the standard bossfight impossible due to it glitching the boss out.

Pros:
GREAT WITH FRIENDS (i believe it is a required to play with friends)
good FAIR movement (all players can do the same stuff with enough practice)
guns feel right
titans are fun to use and are relatively easy to learn
movement rains king

Cons
solo play isnt very fun
the smg's are op (completely outclass EVERYTHING)
matchmaking is kinda ♥♥♥♥♥♥ (you will lose 50% of your matches just cause of either a person who has no clue what their doing or someone on the enermy team just completely outclassing everyone else)
you cannot camp/play slow

TLDR
if you got a few friends to play with this is great there is bs that happens but friends can help it not be so bad. this game is worth it expecially if you can get it on sale.

EDIT: in its current state having not been fixed and servers being just dead there is litterally 0 reason to buy this game. SHOULD respawn fix the servers/ddos attacks the game will be back to is glory of being both amazing and fun to play while maintaining its difficulty through movement.
