This game oozes horrifying sci fi atmosphere. Excellent sound design and music. The backgrounds have the charm of older prerendered graphics. The voice acting isn't the best, but they make very convincing gag sound effects when they need to. There was one scene in particular that I could feel raise my heart rate! The puzzles are generally logical, except for one problem...

It's terrible at signposting things you can pick up and interact with. Multiple times I would get stuck wandering around an area, check a walkthrough, and see that I simply walked past an important item because it didn't stick out. As soon as picking up what I missed however, I would be able to intuit what the game wanted me to do generally. (one exception, check the PDAs and look at the borders of the screens. You don't have to do this anywhere else, so I don't feel bad about spilling this.) Regularly upon entering a new area, you will also have no clue where the player character is standing due to how dark his sprite looks. This usually doesn't get you killed, but it is annoying.

I feel if the player character or some sort of support character commenting on objects you click on, or general commentary if the player hasn't made any progress in a while would have gone a long way. As it is now, you are mostly on your own as the puzzle solving will just be quiet, atmospheric sounds with no commentary by the character to help you intuit what you're supposed to do.

So overall, worth playing if you enjoy macabre, sci-fi horror, but keep a walkthrough handy if nothing else but to make sure you have all the puzzle pieces. I got for $1 off Humble Bundle, and for that price, it is very much worth it.

All the comments saying the ending sucks... unfortunately are true. The ending is a really clumsy exposition dump with absolutely no stakes and convenient developments that completely took me out of the story. I was past caring and started skipping the voice acting which speaks for itself. It's just one scene after the other of cliffnotes describing answers to certain mysteries (that were dumped on you a couple hours earlier). The trailer makes it look like, well, an actual game, but it's a completely linear sequence of events. It's a far cry from games like the somnium files series that let players tackle the mystery in their own order to build intrigue and different theories. They add a "revelation mode" after you complete the game, but I personally would've liked it more if we simply got multiple perspectives throughout the story as different branches instead of dumping it on you at the end when the mystery is through. I certainly don't have it in me to go through this additional information, since the ending was so unsatisfying.

For what it's worth, it has a somewhat effective (if horribly paced) beginning and middle. The first time you hear a scream after being immersed in complete silence for a while is a great scene and sent chills down my back, and I also enjoy the scenes of characters discussing the situation, but man, does the script need a harsher editor! Characters will state the same thing multiple times and have circular arguments with each other making simple conversations go on forever. I really couldn't stand the random diatribes Haruaki gets into in his own head about society at large, and criticizing the other characters. Looking back on my time with the game, I enjoyed it the most when I spent the most time out of his head (about the first 1/3 of the game, they should've just made Chiemi the protagonist, she felt a bit redundant). I did enjoy the majority of the comedy scenes, though. (that scene with the garbled japanese is amazing, even though it's essentially a "your mom" joke)

I don't want to spend any more time on this game, so I'll just go ahead and say if you're more of the type to feel like it was about the journey and not the destination, you might have a decent time with the werewolf/mafia elements. However, if you've gone through great stories like 999, Ghost Trick, Ace Attorney, Somnium Files, Little Busters, etc. you will probably ultimately feel disappointed by this game like me. Definitely wait for it to go on sale, you can get it for a little underneath 20 USD every couple of months.

This is a fun spinoff of the Yakuza (Ryu ga Gotoku) series that puts you into the shoes of an ex-lawyer turned detective in Kamurocho. If you've played other Yakuza games, this can offer a unique perspective story wise, and gameplay wise. Yagami has 2 unique fighting styles that, in my opinion, feel quite smooth to use in comparison to the standard Yakuza gameplay. An overall engaging story, dialogue, and characters makes this an entertaining entry into the series, but unfortunately the game dissuaded me from participating in the side content as much.

That is because of the new tailing mechanic they added, where you follow someone without being spotted. Many if the side missions/cases you can deal with require you to tail someone, and it is quite boring. You'll spend much time walking slowly, angling the camera around walls, staring at an NPC while they glance behind themselves over and over or walk around a corner and wait to trick you into failing the mission. It really is dull, and made me prioritize completing the main story over interacting with the side content. Luckily, it is not necessary to complete much of it to be able to complete the game, even on Hard. Despite the boring tailing challenges, I mainly enjoyed my time with the game and found it fresh enough to enjoy, regardless of this being merely the most recent in a long line of Yakuza games I have completed.

The absolute classic survival horror. Obviously, if you're not used to it, the fixed camera can be a hurdle, and the idea of taking hits instead of shooting enemies to trade healing items for ammo can also be alien, but hopefully you'll tumble to the intentions of the developer. You may want to make your own notes on the map as well, it's that kind of game!

This game is a fun classic, very much worth the asking price (especially on sale). Iconic voice acting and dialogue, this game is a classic for a reason. There is very much to do in the game, and intended for multiple playthroughs. There is a bit of stiffness in the controls modern gamers will have to get used to, but it's still just as fun as it was when it came out. Whether that be goofing around in the sandbox, or an optimized "serious" playthrough where you try to save as many lives as possible, there's different ways to play the game. A bit of advice if you want to "optimize" your time, use skateboards to get around.

The game has aged quite well, outside of some NPC character models and some environments. Word of warning, it is also quite a bit difficult, especially before you've leveled up Frank some. If you get a call about a weirdo, well... let's just say you should bring some food and a decent weapon along!

I really wouldn't recommend this game to anyone looking for a quality experience. It's pretty blatantly a game hastily slapped together with bought/free assets to cash in. It is only $5, but there are so many better games you can get for that price. The gameplay is essentially the same for every map and each map would be completed in a very short period of time if not for the simple fact that you cannot pick up items out of order. This requires you and your friends to memorize item placements that are random in a generic environment in order to progress, leading you to waste a bunch of time running in circles while a timer runs down. Barebones generic story and short, cheesy "reward" cutscene for completing the challenge make this a wholly unsatisfying experience I would really only recommend if you want to troll your friends' ears and bore them.

I really can't recommend this game to someone who's familiar with the first game. Definitely get it on sale if you are curious.

This game is a pretty cheap cash-in on a fad. It looks cheap, feels cheap, and sounds cheap. It's filled with weird visual bugs and there are loads of network problems that cause even more visual bugs. It's really only worth purchasing if you have some friends to play a crappy game with, as the puzzle "mechanics" are obtuse and not particularly enjoyable, and the main entertainment value is hearing your friends scream at a jump scare like a clickbait youtuber. It's pretty easy to see that the grand vision the developer has in mind will be impossible to meet the expectations they've set up.

It's well written and has appealing art, but this story is not a happy one. If you are sensitive, you will certainly feel sick after reading this. With an ending like that, I'd rather have one where everyone dies!

This game is a perfect storm of production values. Beautfiul artwork, wonderful music, voice acting that reaches the heart, and well written dialogue. The only problem is that it ends so quickly! Can easily finish it in a single evening. What I wouldn't give for this to receive a sequel or DLC...
