The game is probably great, not that I can find out since this PC port is so disgustingly bad. The key prompts on the PC version are for a controller, the camera and mouse cursor are simultaneously active, the graphics suck compared to console and it's just a nightmare to even try on a PC. Truly pathetic.

Ok, this game may have some serious memory issues as it may have been responsible for the MEMORY_MANAGEMENT Blue Screen crash dump I recieved while playing it on top of very frequent freezes for what seems like many users. So unless you want a game that might damage your computer stay well away from this.

A shame too, as early access survival games go it seems to be a damn good one when it works properly.

As amazing as my first impression has been, I flatly refuse to recommend this game while the damn tutorial and all the key prompts for the STEAM VERSION of this game are those of a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ XBOX CONTROLLER with no apparent way to change it! If you can make a game like this, you can fix an issue like that, sort it the ♥♥♥♥ out!

Review updated in light of the recent Foundation update:

This game is certainly not for everyone, It comes with many of the issues that typify the survival sandbox genre and even with the so-called Foundation Update (The initial build of The War Z was also called Foundation Build funnily enough) which added base building, farming and some actual goals to the game, it still gets repeditive quickly and ironically, despite the sheer size of the universe No Man's Sky offers, the planets differ in only fairly superficial ways. You won't find any planetwide sand oceans or gas giants, no himalayan mountains or amazonian jungles, only differing resources and environmental effects.

While those who are patient and looking for a more meditiative game experience will probably enjoy No Man's Sky, be aware that those who are readily bored by repiditive gameplay will find a lot of that boredom here and the more impatient of people who prefer a more fast paced or tense experience will not find one here.

Overall, I rather enjoy the game, but I vehemently refuse to defend it and feel I can't emphasise too much that whoever you are you should never buy this game as the developers Hello Games have marketed it with barefaced lying, scripted "gameplay" showing environments and assets they falsely claimed were procedurally generated and doctored screenshots that are somehow still on the storefront at the time of writing this review despite Valve prohibiting such media on a game's store page.

The Investigation run by the Advertising Standards Authority claimed to have found nothing wrong which considering the evidence is pure ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ bollocks and smacks of incompetence at best on their part, do not believe claims that Hello Games are innocent, that the disappointment and controversy surrounding this game are purely the result of fans hyping themselves into a frenzy (a frenzy that Hello Games only continued to propagate up until launch day). Hello Games LIED. Pure and simple. Do not reward them with your money, do not send the message that fraud is fair game in this industry. Do not endorse liars like these developers.

With the time and budget a game of this potential has had the end result is beyond a disgrace. It could be argued that one could ransack the developers' bank accounts and still justify a refund.
