One of the Most modded games of All time. Star Wars, Warhammer 40k, and virtually any conflict you can think of between Modern Warfare and the 1700s is represented in some capacity on the workshop. There are also mods to improve the Vanilla WW2 experience if that's all you are looking for. Overall it's pretty great.

Potentially the worst Grand Strategy game Paradox has released in its vanilla form. The economic side has seen some improvements, you no longer have to micro manage every element of your building queue and the ai will do "Some" of the building for you in a more free market economy. The diplomatic play system and war however, feel constantly terrible.

I honestly don't mind not being able to control your troop movements, but there are so many other things that make it beyond frustrating. All goals for a diplomatic play have to be locked in before the play escalates into a war, and only the countries initiating them can set goals, However they can set goals on nations who are allies with the enemy. Peace deals are also seperate, but goals remain even if the primary nation is knocked out of the war.

So the AI can "And Will" war dec on a nation you have any kind of relation with, set several goals on you, dog pile the pitiful nation, at which point it gains all of its demands from that nation and a boost in war support, then turn its full attention on you. And since you can add wargoals during the war, and weren't involved in the diplomatic play, even if you commit fully towards defeating the invader entirely, you will gain absoultely nothing from the effort. War isn't just bad, it's very often literally pointless as due to issues like this, it's entirely possible to end up fighting a war where nobody gains anything regardless of how it turns out.

Also if you have puppets or allies, they will only join in a diplomatic play which directly involves you as an initiator, so if you join an ally during a war, none of your puppets or dominions will lift a finger to help you, so don't bother with puppets if you plan to have allies.

Edit: 6/6/24. Game is still broken, war goals have some of the worst bugs. Primary War Goals can disappear without warning or notification making it impossible to gain anything from a war. This seems to happen as a result of laws changing wither within your own country or the enemy, as well as states changing ownership, which is, you know, a common occurrence in wars.

Early Access Review
It's free, and it's fun. Combat takes little getting used to but battles are fast and hit hard, and it's satisfying to out play an opponent and really punish them.

With Immortal Empires finally out, and close to a year of QoL changes since release it finally feels like the WH3 people were hoping for. The New Siege battles look stellar and chaos has become the terrible force of nature I always hoped it would.

Waited 2 and a half hours for the game to just not let me log in because My email was already in use... For the account I made specifically to link to steam.
If you really want to play this, just download it from its own site. It's unplayable here because of the terrible client.
