any of y'all got tactics for playing japan? If so what do you do, how effective is it and why is it effective?

trying to figure out how to play of match of this game against the computer and can't figure it out, it seems that skirmish mode is method of setting of a match of various modes and i can't figure out how to set it up against the computer rather than non existent players...
