Yeah, nah, not that good.


Not everything is bad. Some of the improvements are really good. The problem is the sum of all changes that did not work well.
I played (and still do, lekmod mostly) almost 3k hours on civ5. I still I can't understand some of the changes they made.
So, basically this review represents my impressions, compared with very good civ5. So much time has passed and I also saw some streaming.
Hence I took my time to buy the complete edition, giving that the prognostics was not that good.
Also, in these past few days I played both games (5 and 6, alternatively) to try to be fair. All in single player too.

Improvements:
-Escort was a nice little improvement.
-Culture tree is nice, with culture having a bigger role in the gameplay
-Game is much more optimized, using much less pc resources.
-Having similar popus being grouped (with little numbers on the top right corners of each) with different messages on mouse hover was another good one.
-Having trade routes to build the roads is a nice little improvement. They had to do this, when they put limited usage for the workers (now called builders, just to confuse us or Idk)
-That "your empire makes history" yellow/goldish big popup when something notable happes is a very good improvement/new feature.
-Having the leader popup to say something and display the very same thing immediately after is unecessary.
-Having the great general to display his area of influence was a nice little one.
-Being able to save a game configuration is really nice. Not having to go through the advanced set up everytime is nice thing.
-Having traders automatically build roads was also a good one. I wish they followed this "auto" moto behavior for other stuff too.


Confusing stuff
-Diplomatic favor: I do not know how they could have done it better. It is just not good.
-O.M.G. what are those graphics? Am I playd a discovery kids game? Too colorfull. Also, Bigger units inside a tile did not work so well.
-Took me a while to understand and differentiate amenities from housing. Yes, I know, not that hard. But having those icons so similar did not help.
-About similar icons: this happens with a lot of them (keshigs and knights, etc).
-I just can't see a plce for Loyalty in the game. I fully understand the concept. I just think it does not work well and should be removed. I will try a few more games to confirm this.
-Why buildings now cost nothing to maintain? Does it cost and it is not displaying? Confusing. They it can be checked out in the yields report. The mouse hover tells us no more.
-In civ5 we had a nice report about the current status of all civs. The new one is not so good.
-Wtf is Era score? Sometimes I think they just added new kpís to make it look pretty on the screen.
-Sometimes, there is so much stuff going on-on the screen that I cant see everything: city bombard defense, as an example.
-Poor balance in Standard speed: most of the times, there will be not enough time to boost the discovery of trees. I had to go epic or marathon to try to have a more balanced game.
-Religion is still useless, kinda like civ 5, kinda like life, actually.
-Terribly ballancend timewise, and it gets worse as we choose shorter games.

It can be noticed that the bad stuff fully overcome the little good good stuff. One thing I cannot decide that is good or bad are the districts. Most of the times, I think it is good, added a interesting level of complexity.
Another times, when I just look at it, it feels unnecessary. I would settle it as a good one. Not sure. If we have round world horizontally

Overall, I really tried to enjoy the game but it was not as satisfying as civ5. They tried to put too much features in one single game. There is beauty in simplicity after all...
