Well replaying after watching the TV show, I now have a better appreciation for the game. I still prefer FNV and FO3 in terms of landscape, tone, etc. I think FO4 is a very good engine, and mechanically it works. It's just a bit flat storywise and in terms of immersiveness. I don't consider Boston remotely interesting as an apocalypse area... DC worked for it's subway system. One set in NY or more obscurely Detroit maybe could work. Boston just feels very jokey "haha they have boston accents" kind of way. It's a terrible location for FO, and despite having tons of historical areas to mine, just feels overstuffed and underwhelming. Still very playable as I said, a good engine and tons of mods make this fun. Just the vanilla game is very lacking.
