This is a weird one. There's a really great and fun card game here, if the game could get out of its own way. When I say that I mean, it's a card game that paces itself to be played 300+ hours, when I beat the game and got 100% achievements in 49 hours. It would take me, no ♥♥♥♥, another 200 hours to unlock all the cards on every class, and maybe complete every side quest (not from difficulty, but because there is absolutely no information in-game to assist you). That's the baffling thing- I beat the game, and I still don't even have half the cards unlocked for a class. HALF. The cards seem really cool, too. It would have been great to have them and build better decks, but they drip-feed them after long runs. Why would I want to do an hour-long run to unlock ONE card? (A card you then have to get as a random drop after a battle) I love the game, honestly, in spite of it's weird balance and style, but it hides its best qualities behind lack of information and an absurd, ABSURD, level of grind that most players won't get through.

Amazing base game and super fun, but holy hell the DLC is straight up predatory. The game itself is worth a thumbs up, but the pricing and hiding half the game behind paywalls is just stupid.

Another great take on the survivors genre. The spells and spell upgrades you get are pretty hit or miss (some shine and some are trash) it's the itemization that this game absolutely nails. I'd make the argument that DMD itemization is what really makes this fun. Every character has 5 different sub-classes essentially, and you can gear heroes up and shoot for different play-styles (for example, one subclass is that your armor doesn't grant damage reduction and instead gives damage per armor point). These sub-classes only work because the item drops are engaging and easy to understand. The harder the difficulty, the better the loot (rare drops). I've honestly had more fun hunting drops than I have in the past two diablo games, which is pretty insane. Overall, this is a super solid game and I'll be coming back to it often; highly recommend.

Takes the Vampire Survivors model in a slightly different direction. Starts out slow since you have to physically unlock gear (one per run), but once you get a little deeper, you can make some really fun builds and gear towards things you want to try. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I'll change the review in 6 months if they manage to salvage whatever this update was.

There is absolutely no way this UI change was approved by anyone with common sense. And they launch a brand new update with no testing, and do a free weekend with game-breaking graphical issues. Absolute trainwreck.

Found an office with pigeon journalists. Human body and pigeon head. They had fully functional human hands with fingers. They pecked the keys with their beak. 10/10

Nothing will ever beat the -experience- of Vampire Survivors, but Soulstone Survivors DOES win out when it comes to gameplay. You are able to move, aim attacks, and DODGE, and you better get real good at dodging real fast. There's never a point in SS where you can afk gold farm or just kill everything without thought; you're gonna be scrappin till you die every time. It differs from VS in that you choose your 6 main attacks (which you can change out at any point) but the passives are endless as long as you survive. This is definitely not just a lazy VS rip-off; it's a well thought-out, very fun addition to the genre. Oh, and bosses, lots of bosses!

Very chill and enjoyable, lots to explore. It's a one and done experience, but man, that experience is trippy. I already beat the entire game on another account, haven't beaten it on this one. Takes about 3-4 hours to do everything. Excited for the sequel.
